I took a quick and dirty "German for Reading Knowledge" in grad school. (The dept. insisted that I needed the credit, but didn't really want me to spend time on it; go figure ). Just enough to make me realize that Spanish was a heck of a lot easier.

Near as I can tell, learning German is harder than learning Spanish or French. But, don't let that stop you if you have a genuine interest in the language.

I took Spanish myself, since I figured I might have to use it someday...

    My former zo teacher--

--once told me that German is not the most romantic language in the world. If you try to say 'I love you', you spit all over the girl. Makes you wonder how the hell Hitler ever got any.
About the only German I know is what I pick up off old Hogan's Heroes reruns....

    Hey I know German :P

BTW I never heard that people spit when they say "Ich liebe dich".

French is a lot harder than German! Believe me. I dropped French last year and I don't regret this choice at all (lol although I live 10 miles away from France)

French can be hard, I admit-especially conjugating all those words! (Shudders...) But lots can be easy, too...

....German sounds like an interesting language to learn, actually. I'd like to try it....but there are no German classes nearby.

I don' think I'm understanding that. But here's my take on the languages.

In high school I wanted to take Italian beause I'm Italian, but they didn't offer it. So I stuck with Spanish, and it was not a bad decision at all. With Spanish, you have a lot of conjugation to learn and stuff, but when you have a sound that's how it sounds. It's a great language. When I try to read German or French, as an English speaker, I can't pronounce 99% of what I'm looking at. Like that saying in French "such is life" is pronounced "say la vee". But the spelling is like "C'est le vi" or something. It hurts my little head.

So that's why I could never learn French. And let's not forget, English is a horrific language in itself. As my friend was saying in a conversation the other day, when you have so many exeptions to rules (in this case, in a language), they aren't rules anymore!

I took a year of Japanese and I think it's difficult, yet fascinating. I can read and write 2 of the writing systems, but I fear my summer lack of studying has diminished that a bit. Still, it's pretty damn cool.

Hey....I forgot English is bad itself! I agree with how French is spelled but pronounced differently....it can be a pain....
....I would wonder how difficult Japanese is....all I can say is "Sayanora".

    Sayanora till next post!

Je pense que (and i could be wrong) vous avez besoin d'une "de" apres "un peu." Et aussi vous n'avez pas besoin (n'avez besoin pas?) ... ah, forget it. You don't need both the "est ce-que" and the reversed subject verb. Maybe we should get KyleWayne in here to check it out. And it's weird chatting w/ people en francaise. Fun too. So i look forward to another french-speaking (francophone) pal.

Quelle anee etes vous en? Vous l'aimez?

Edit: And i'm not trying to sound stuck up or anything by my post. Sorry if i come off sounding it. Mais, je parle francaise un peu aussi

I took an intensive german class in university for 2 months and I gotta tell ya...it 's not an easy language especially the verb conjugations. I enjoyed learning Spanish more than german. I found it more easier to pronounce and speak.

My grammar is awful. Le futur simple is what i mean by that butchered francais) mon quatreiem (Mon dieu! Fourth is what i mean) anee en francais. Hey, it's summer. I'm a little rusty. Jus'qua un peu
