My grandma and I gave our dog a bath once. His name is Jack... a Yorkshire Terrior... small thing....

...we had to put a lot of melon flavored (smell wise, not mouth wise) conditioner spray to cover the stench... he had a nice scent afterwards...

EDIT: (2am, and tired) Well, we put Jack in a sink (small enough to fit) then we sprayed him down with warm water. Next came the shampoo, then came the lathering. But be careful around the eyes with soap, unless you have the no-tear soap.... then we rinsed him off again, dried him off, and put conditioning spray on him. Then we combed him out, and put "pretties" in his hair. At the end, we blow dried him, and gave him a treat for being such a good puppy....

EDIT 2: (really tired) Now, to answer your question... be sure to find a good shampoo. With larger dogs, I recommend bathing he/she in the yard, or in a shower stall (i've done it before). Scrub really well, use some conditioning spray at the end (pick a nice scent)... not sure if blowdrying large dogs is needed.... and that should be it... remember, dogs never smell nice when wet... what do you think went wrong?

How do you give a dog a good bath? simple. take him/her to a groomer . Seriously though, I've washed my dog a few times, and it's just not worth it, and they look and smell so good after they've been to someone professional. In other advise would be to ask you vet or someone at a pet store, also for any recommendations on what dog shampoos work best, etc.

thanx for the advice. Both of you. Seriously I don't know what I did wrong. Maybe its because I used many varities of shampoo, I don't know, but I will definently try again sometimes within the next week(boy is she going to hate me )

Trap the dog in a cage, then hose it.

    I'm such a redneck--

--that I actually live several miles from a lake. My brother's dog jumped in there while he was following me to the post office ione afternoon a couple of weeks ago, swam around a bit, and actually gave himself a bath.

I once gave my dog a bath and she smelled horrible afterwards. In fact, she smelled worse than before she got the bath. So I ran to the store, bought different dog shampoo, bathed her again, and she smelled really nice.

I don't reccomend the cage and hose idea, it really freaks the dog out, not that i've done it or anything
