Hey. You're not going to believe this, but I actually remember your first post. Cool. Happy 2000!I have 1/10 of what you have......
Mr. Eye
Ohhhh, that takes us way back, doesn't it? That soon became DG's signature post on the old boards to let us know to knock off posting so dang much on the boards, he was archiving them. In honor of my 2000th post, and in honor of the old boards, I just had to name my 2000th post something easilly familar from the old boards.
I tracked down my first post, too. It was in reply to a thread about prime time cartoons, and for historic sakes, here's the first post I could find from me on the old boards....

I think that prime time cartoons DO have a chance of finding a solid audience but the majority of them are considered DOA by the networks before they even get a chance.
In a recent article that reported ratings for the cable networks, Cartoon Network was the NUMBER TWO rated cable network out of all of them with a 2.0 rating. ABC killed Clerks with a higher rating than that. Not that Clerks was my favorite prime time animated show, but the example is worth pointing out.
Mission Hill was a show I loved and looked forward to watching (and, thankfully, taping every week) but WB cancelled the show after airing part one of a two part episode. I don't know how Mission Hill fared in the ratings but I think it is safe to say that it either had it's audience or would have found a more solid audience had WB promoted it as much as they promote some of their other programming.
I think prime time animation has a chance of surviving, but not on the big networks. On the big networks, anything outside of the Sunday night Simpsons centered animation block on FOX has a hard time climbing to reach the required ratings that the networks want to see to keep the show on. However, if these same shows such as Clerks and Mission Hill and many others generated the same ratings (or even less!) on Cartoon Network, the shows would be considered hits.
I love prime time animation. As much as I love Simpsons, I also love seeing other styles and formats for animated programming on TV. I think Family Guy is a brilliant show that gets the shaft way too many times by FOX. What I vote for is that Cartoon Network begins to carry the majority of these cartoons. I don't know when they would air them. Perhaps they should have considered using these types of shows for their new Boomerang network rather than relying on old Hanna Barbara material to fuel a new network when there was plenty of room for Hanna Barbara on Cartoon Network.
Ah, so many cartoons, so little air time. If some of these shows can't make it on TV, I hope that somebody has enough good sense to put them out on DVD. At least Clerks is coming to DVD. I would also buy Mission Hill and King of the Hill DVDs. Heck, I would buy just about any DVD of prime time animated programming!

Of course, I didn't become a frequent poster over night, and it was a little while before I actually came up with an idea for my first thread....to which nobody replied.

I was wondering if anybody had a favorite DVD or movie or TV show that really took them by surprise, not only in the animation department but in the overall quality of the story telling and plot and everything.
For me, I took a chance and ordered the anime movie DOG OF FLANDERS. I had no desire to see the live action movie, but heard a few good things about the animated version so I figured I would check it out. Damn fine movie. I had apprehensions when I got it from DVDExpress.com and the sticker on the box said for ages 3andUp. I usually go for more mature animation. I will agree with most people who have said that this movie is more for a more mature audience than the studio marketed it for. I guess because it is animation with a dog that makes it immediately for little kids. But I won't ramble on about how animation is sterotyped in America.
DOG OF FLANDERS really took me by surprise on every level. It was an engaging story, excellent animation, and I would have to say it is my favorite anime movie since GRAVE OF THE FIREFLIES. In fact, I would recommend it to anybody looking for something different in anime from the sci-fi/giant robot motiffs that perpetuate in alot of other anime.
So does anybody else have something in their collection that they were unsure about but were taken by total surprise and the movie wound up on your favorites list?

And it was still a while before I really started posting reguarlly, I just kinda looked in on the boards every now and then, but now I am a veteran World's Finest trooper, ready for my next 2000 posts!

It was quite nostolgic going thru the old boards to find the first posts. I saw several names of old regulars who just don't seem to be around anymore. Too bad we can't have a "Where are they now" special to find out what they are up to!
Actually we might be able to. Some of them might just lurk around. This could be somethnig where'd they'd have to post.
Mr. Eye
Oh Cal that takes me back!!A very fitting and cool nostalgic tactic there. Of course, when I saw it, I didn't know WHAT to think, but then I slid down the slide of Memory Lane's playground.
I am not what one would call an anime fan, nor am I the opposite. But today I went to Blockbuster to rent a movie that I wasn't sure was worthy of my DVD collection or not (it takes time to grow, I'm very picky). StreetFighter II: The Animated Movie got some agida from certain fans, from what I remember hearing, but I sat back and loved every minute. I was thinking of grabing some screen shots and making a Windows background or two. But to be honest I'm backed up with ideas for those already!
Archiving...NOW!! (lol! Sounds like an anime transformation sequence is gonna start after saying that)

2000 posts?! That seems soooo far off, for me at least. Congrats on a feat not many have equaled. You and DG are in a league of your own up there...![]()
One of them, I sure would hope! I don't know where the WF boards were before I joined them, but I was on what I think of the "old boards" early on in the game (http://www.toonzone.net/cgi-bin/wf/w...x&bg=universal). I think I started on archive three or so, early on. I didn't post a massive amount there, but I certainly did like those boards. But these are much better. And going back to the old boards...it was kinda confusing getting used to the old format again, I had been so spoiled with the new format of these boards. And I have to say these new ones are much better!Originally posted by joker
congrats on 2000 calhoun. but does it really make you a vet?
A vet is someone who's been here for awhile, more than 10 months, I'd say. Sound good? Course, there are some people who's been here since day one, which is very awesome to see. I visit the old boards quite frequently and it's so easy to get lost in them. It's so cool seeing all those old posts and the conversations we came up with. Gpoing back and reading those X-MEN movie reviews, or the first thoughts on ROTJ and the hacking it under took. The news we posted on the boards last summer that came true, or never did. It's just...very cool. Like visiting an old friend's house, or finding an old coloring book.
And things don't ever really change. We may change, but the feeling around here won't. At the end of the day we're all friends and fans. I still listen to Harvey Danger (I also recommend Day One), and we still dish about animation and gripe about the monkies behind WB.
The memories....
BTW - Congrats Cal.

At 21 posts per day it's not hard to stack em up. But that's an incredible rate. Congrats to both of our 2K members (and steaming steadily toward 3K).Originally posted by flhero311

Yeah, I guess posting that much every day would get you to that 2K position pretty kwik...
Congrats Cal!!! Man, i really aughta go back and check out the old boards sometime...
In fact i just did. And i think my first post was in the section that got scrapped by the flood posting. Cuz i had no memories of the prior archive and too many from the one after. Well, i guess i'll never be able to look back and see![]()
The main bummer about the old boards is that you cannot search for all your posts the way you can here.
I think my first post was a cast correction; someone credited (or blamed) the script of "Rats!" on Bader, and I horned in to say that it was actually Fogel.
I used to miss the branching replies, but now I think I like the freeform that comes with the current setup better. It's impossible to imagine "The Neverending Post" working on the old boards, even without the archiving to worry about.
