    Unusual dreams

    Like This Thread!
Inspired by Joker's post in the neverending post, I wanted to bring the topic to the AniGen board. Who here remembers their dreams? And what are some of the most unusual ones you have had?

Here are a couple of mine:

I drove behind this one building and there was this older guy there and some older woman standing there and they were having car problems and I talked to them for a while. It was raining, and the path behind me became flooded. I got in my car and drove ahead, around the building and found the building was a strip mall but a crappy strip mall. So I went in side, actually, drove inside the mall....and I was looking at all the run down stores in there. I came to one nice furniture store, called Carpenter's Furniture or something like that, and it was supposed to be this carpenter who made furniture and the owner of the store was a Christian (I got all of this in just a moment in the dream) and I drove around the center display in the front of this store and drove out, but it was very posh and nice. Then I come to this office in the mall, I don't know what they were selling but I was looking for an exit. By this time I am no longer driving a car, but apparently I am driving on a couch. I don't know, it was a dream, and I have to pick up my couch to get past all these desks. The lady receptionist there told me where the exit door was, as all I wanted was out of this mall...and I walk to the exit and I see all this weight lifting equipment and she tells me the owner works out and enters competitions. I open the door and I see this dog that looks like a dog I used to have, a young and healthy dog and the sun is shining behind her and she looks so nice. I asked the lady if this dog would bite me, and she says yes, the dog is very mean. The dog is biting at me and she calls for the owner, he comes and hits the dog but it does nothing, and he puches the dog hard and knocks her out. Then I look at the dog and it looks like it has mange. Then the next thing I know in this dream, I am watching a news story about this guy and he's being busted for running a secret puppy mill illegally.

    And another one...

I had a dream in which I was travelling thru snow, driving at first on a highway, then coming to a city where I was walking down a street. Though on my journey it was getting increasingly snowy and by the time I reached this city the snow made it hard to see and it was deep, it was a happy scene. I was running thru the snow like a little boy, playing and having a good time, and other people were like wise having fun in the snow.

I got to one block down town where there was a canopy of sorts hanging over a shop and the snow hadn't been falling as hard there and the sidewalk was clean. At this clearing on the sidewalk I met several versions of Annie, both of stage and cartoon. There were several Annies and each one looked different. Each one represented a different period in time. They were all crossing the street to get back to their time period. I decided to follow them back across the street. Across the street was a city block where each building represented a different period of time, starting with the most modern and ending up at the end of the block in a 30's style building in black and white. The Annies all crossed the street singing and having a good time.

Across the street I found a building representing the 60's, to which no Annie was going, so I went into the building. It was like walking into a store but they weren't selling anything. As soon as I walked thru the door, I felt that I had travelled thru time. The door closed behind me and the first thing I noticed was a 60's style TV with an 60's telelvision program on, but I didn't know what the show was. I looked to the front of the store/building where the window looked out on the street and I saw a teacher reading a book to a young child, almost a baby. She had a pile of books beside her.

Enchanted by this pile of books from the 60's, I went and picked one out from the pile. It was a book about a man who was trying to decide between a life of religion or a life of reading. I began to read it standing up, leaning up against the door. The teacher tried to explain to me that somebody was coming. I didn't know who this person was but I got the distinct feeling he was against the books for some reason. She closed the door and had me sit down on the floor as to not be seen by this man who regurally makes visits to this building. She takes out a dollar and puts it under the door, then two tens and a five, and slides it under the door. I understand this money to be some sort of a bribe to make the man go away, only it doesn't work. He takes the money but forces himself in anyway.

Once inside, the man and two other guys dressed in suits, hassel the woman about her books. They take the books and the man has his suits begin to destroy them. While this is going on, I am reading my book down there in the corner, hoping they don't see me. It is a good book, and I am nearing chapter three. In chapter three, the story is from the view point of the main character and he begins to write about his religious life. In this portion of the book, it is set out to look and read like scripture, so when the man looks down at me he thinks I am reading the Bible and is content to leave me alone.

Soon, though, upon a second look, the man realizes that it's not a Bible. The names of the "books" aren't the same and none of the passages are familar, as this man has memorized the Bible word for word. When I finally look at him, he is standing there without a shirt and a perfect physique, very muscel bound, and he has blonde hair. He takes the book from my hand and I stand up, angry. This book is the one thing from this time period that I felt was mine, that I felt was given to me, and that I feel I could take back with me to prove that I was in the 60's. The man gives the books to his suits to destroy and says that morality isn't up for man to decide. I say something to the effect that he isn't any more qualified to decide what is moral or not and he challenges me to hit him in the chest. I strike him but his chest is hard as rock. He and his suits laugh, and he says that's why he is qualified to decide. I assert that he is qualified for nothing and kick him in the head. Shortly after that, I woke up.
I'll try being nicer if you try being smarter.

    Re: Unusual dreams

Will have to think back to some of my own unusual dreams.

In the meantime, for anyone who likes odd dreams I would highly recommend the novel "The Unconsoled" by [first name escapes me] Ishiguro. It's an amazing work, of episodes that are shot thru and linked to each other thru dream logic. Example: The protagonist leaves a small cafe in the middle of a large city, travels many miles into the country, and eventually has lunch in a small inn in the middle of nowhere. When he wants to return he suddenly "remembers" that this inn shares the same building with the cafe, and feeling no surprise walks thru a door to find himself back in the small cafe in the middle of town.

Very sad, very creepy, very memorable. (Also, very long, so be warned.)

guess i should jump in right here

well ive had some really wired dreams the past couple of days, all having to do with camp and or superheroes.

some of them are kinda short

im playing basket ball out side with a counciler i met at camp, all of the sudden im bitten by a radio active spider. after seeing joey(the counciler) whips out a spiderman costume just like in the movie, two pool cues and a big ball of cut pieces of yarn in all different colors. he tells me these are my wepons to strike down evil with(i cant climb wall or shoot webs or do anything else the normal spider man would do). so i put on the costume and run around the nieghbor hood whith pool cues in hand scaring people. joey chases me down and explains this is not my purpose, it is to fight evil. later my dad gets home and we have to go to the hospital for no real reason. i pack my ball of colored yarn and my spider man costume thinking there might be some evil at the hospital. but i wont need my pool cues. my dad doesnt know where the hospital is. he looks in the phone book. we walk out the back door and the dream ends.

and yet another one. this ones really short
this girl from camp is making me go to a school dance a couple towns over. i decide to wear a coat and tie, shorts and i cant decied weather i want my green hi tops or my cowboy boot moccasins. i decide to wear the green hi tops. when we get there, there is a bunch of people from my school and i dont know what they are doing at the wrong school. at half court of the gym the floor dips down very steeply until it hits the wall. so the intere dance i slide up and down the gym floor.

thats all the ones ive had recently other than one on the never ending post

    Dream scheme

Two of my strangest dreams have actually turned up in the openings of fiction pieces I've been sending to publishers. In one, I saw the rotten corpse of Josef Stalin reanimated, breaking into the cabin of a family of Russian serfs hiding in a bedroom and stealing...their Pepsi. In another, I was seated at the computer when I heard a noise behind me, and when I looked, the ceiling fan was spinning faster and faster and about to break loose and come flying at me--so I got scared, turned off the computer, and left the room. (Scary thing--a few months later said fan did break free and fall to the ground, smashing into pieces.)

They say dreams of flying indicate either repressed carnal desire or intense creativity, and I have those frequently....

One from my childhood I still remember very clearly:

I was in the forest preserves with my family - having some sort of picnic. I wandered off on my own, and followed some lonely overgrown path. I started to get lost, but down the path I saw this archway made of old logs - sort of looked like the entrance to an Old West ranch - and it felt safe - it looked like an inviting place. I walked toward it, and just as I got to the archway, the incredible Hulk jumped down from the overhanging trees and stood in my path. He smiled at me and wagged his finger back and forth, like he warnging me not to go in. Then he jumped off into the trees again, and that's the last thing I remember.

"With my feet upon the ground, I lose myself between the sounds
And open wide to suck it in, I feel it move across my skin.
I'm reaching up and reaching out, I'm reaching for the random, or what ever will bewilder me.
And following our will and wind we may just go where no one's been.
We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no one's been.
    Spiral out. Keep going"

YES!!! Just last night, I dreamt that I was at a royal ball. I was all dressed up in a baby blue ball gown embroidered (sp?) with white lace but when the musicians started to play they played this beautiful waltz that I have never heard before. It was so melodic and pleasant to the ear. When I was coming out of the dream state and into reality (waking up basically) I was still huming the unusual melodic tune

I also dream frequently of spreading angelique wings and jumping off buildings to fly. I love that soaring through the air feeling.

Eating in my dreams is weird for me because I could smell and taste the delicious food. I am usualy eating chocolate or cookies. I tend to see also strangers of different ethnicities. They are usualy friendly but sometime they are just plain mean and chase me to kill me.

I usually look up the little details in my dream books or whatever stood out more during my dreams. I beleive sometimes that dreams can reveals things about us that we hide deep in our subconscience. Or dreams tend to reveal little messages to us that can be helpfull. I like interpreting dreams, it's better than reading the coffee cup.

I had this dream where my family went to an amusement Park. We where all enjoying it, and we even made fun of my brother for going into a bathroom when he thought it led to a thrill ride, or arcade or something. Anyway we come out and its like 4 pm. So we're there and all of a sudden this guy comes running into the park. The gates begin to close lock down style and I'm like "What's going on." suddenly he brandishes a firearm. He holds it out and aims it at this elderly couple. He then see's me and points it directly at my feet. He fires and misses, then in an instant he falls over dead. Then out comes a police officer with a firearm. They carry him away and as I go to thank the officer, he just shruggs it off like he doesn't really care that much.

The next one was really weird. This freind of mine/ former classmate is visiting from Colorodo and we greet eachother with big hugs and hand shakes and everrything. So we go walking through my school with our arms around one anothers shoulders talking about stuff. We then sit down and continue to talk, then I put my arm around her and she socks me angrily. Like I've done something to her. Funny thing is when I told her about it over the phone a couple days later she laughed and said she would never do that. Oh well.

    LADY KYLEWAYNE, INTERPRETER OF DREAMS:
All you have to tell me is what stood out more in your dream (s). Ex: Forest, food, color, person, aliens, etc...
All you need is the little turban hat and the Jamaican accent....
So how would you interpret either Stalin or a wobbly ceiling fan, I wonder? I'm almost scared to ask, truthfully....

Calhoons dreams interpreted by the help of Kylewayne

Hey Calhoon! I tried to interpret your first dream you described according to my book. well here goes...

"As a general rule dogs in a dream are a good omen and symbolize friends. But this dream varies according to the action and the details of the dog". For instance you said that:

The dog is biting at me
Since it bit and attacked you, you are being warned to look out for actual deceit or harmfull trickery from someone that you have placed your trust in. And if you heard it barked fiercely, you are being warned of possible trouble up ahead (the kind of trouble I do not know, it depends...to my knowledge it can be financial or petty little troubles that will pass). Also , you said that the dog was:

a young and healthy dog and the sun is shining behind her and she looks so nice. I asked the lady if this dog would bite me, and she says yes, the dog is very mean
Well Calhoon, i know from experience that this symbolizes that looks can be deceiving! Beware of your friends especially the ones you least expect to stab you in the back.

Now you mentionned that you were driving...well a dream about driving is not good unless someone else was doing the driving for you. You will have a stroke of money luck if YOU were in the passenger seat and not the driver. If you were driving (which is your case) this dream is a warning to be very cautious in money matters. Manage your money well for the next few weeks.

I hope that helpes you calhoon, Dog and Driving were the two main things in your dream so I hoped i did my job well.

Well, I posted two of them above. Can you interpret those? I don't know where I would begin looking in a dream book to find interpretations for time streets, singing Annies, driving on a couch, strip malls, etc.

    Bechie's turn....

Well Dr. Belch...I will try my best
This is what i found out so far.

Seeing a fan in a dream pertains to love affairs. You are in some sort of danger of losing out on love because of fickle behavior. Now, if you turned on the ceiling fan...it forecasts unexpected recognition for past efforts or favors...but since the ceiling fan failed in your dream...this means that your dream is telling you that you suspect you are wasting your energy: so redirect and reasses your ambitions and a change or direction is needed. Will do you good.

Now for Stalin in your dream...geez that one is tough but I think i can do this. Well, Stalin is a famous person so...if you saw a famous person (Stalin in your case) in your dream it suggests that you are trying to acheive and grasp something beyond your reach but this famous person changes everything...because you will get help from an unexpexted source. So your dream is positive in the outcome.

Oh, I should have read a little further down before posting my first reply. Oh, well. That's one down, two to go!

I often have musical dreams, and some have resulted in me waking up and writing songs. Well, not songs per se, as I cannot read or write music, but I will write down the lyrics to certain songs. The music in my dreams is always more beautiful and more complex than the music I hear in my waking hours. And I've had some pretty powerful music dreams.

Ever have a dream where it feels like you're watching a movie? I mean, it's just this one long mega dream that just does not end and you can wake up to the alarm clock in the morning, hit the snooze button and go back to sleep, and that dream continues right were it left off? I might have to post one of those or two on here when I can find where I wrote them down...if I still have them.

Okay, here's one I had recently:

I'm going out on a date with a beautiful woman. She's not based on anything I've seen in real life, but she seems remarkably graceful. The two of us are canoeing down a river, but somehow the canoe flips and we get dunked. I manage to get us to shore, but she's taken in a lot of water and needs CPR. I do it... unfortunately, I had just been eating Pay Days (why? I NEVER eat Pay Days), and she's deathly allergic to peanuts. So we rush to the emergency room... but there has been some sort of minor disaster, and the place is packed. So the two of us are sitting there, waiting to be seen and waiting for the peanuts to kick in and kill her. Then I wake up.

    Well--

--I hate to step on KyleWayne's toes (or paws, as the case may be), but Hatter's dream interests me. In the spirit of Freud, I'll offer my take on it and then compare it to hers:
I don't know how much AM radio you listen to, but I listen to at least 3 hours a day, and I've been hearing a lot about peanut allergies and how they're making trouble on airplanes and in school cafeterias. One can't even enjoy a sandwich without fear that a tiny dollop of peanut butter on a tabletop will cause someone's throat to swell, or peanut dust will get sucked into the ventilation shafts....
The woman represents a loved one, and her drowning indicates some sort of trouble ahead. You want to help but are hampered by percieved inability or weakness, and all efforts only exacerbate the situation--as represented by the peanut consumption and deadly allergy. Why a Payday? That's just how the mind works, playing on whatever data it gathers and stores for later (maybe a commerical seen shortly before bedtime, like with me and Pepsi around the SW re-release.). It could have just as well been a corned beef sandwich or a glass of milk. The packed hospital seems to be further complications, like a bill or a medical emergency coming when one is strapped for cash.

Another thing I've noticed--I can't read in dreams. The text makes no sense. There was the explanation given in "Perchance to Dream", but is that true? None of my psych profs seem to agree whether or not one part of the brain controls dreams and another logical tasks, so that problem may be more the power of suggestion than science.
I also note that all my dreams seem to happen in my old neighborhood, though I haven't lived there in eight years. That place was such a hellhole it made an indelible impression on me. So basically I know on some level that what I'm seeing isn't real.
There's nothing worse than not being able to remember a dream clearly, though. I had a trippy one this morning and all I remember was that everything was underwater, it was very peaceful, and it took a sick turn when this girl took a hammer and smashed the private parts of several marble statues. I'm not sure I even want to know what that means....

I can read in dreams, and quite often. Usually, it is something I have written that I am reading in the dream. In one dream, I wrote and drew this complex comic book that read one way when you read it thru like any other comic book, but became a totally different story when you read all the words backwards.
I'll try being nicer if you try being smarter.
