A Very Important Warning (I'm being serious)

    Like This Thread!
I saw this mentioned on another Toonzone board that most of you guys don't visit. So, I will mention this here:

The virus "worm" Code: Red is supposed to strike this evening at around 8pm Eastern time/7pm Central time.

I heard that people should turn off their computers before then and keep them off for 12 hours afterwards.

To view the original post, it is marked as "important" at the Termite Terrace Board.

I hear this bad boy has hit 100,000 computers so far, so this is quite serious. I am relieved to hear it is targeted towards Windows NT and Windows 2000 users, and Windows 95 users are safe. I am going to update my virus protection files just in case.

But shouldn't these virus affect businesses only?

I couldn't find any article on how it started, but I did find this pic that tries to explain it simply....

Anyone catch the joke about it last nite on The Daily Show. Apparently the virus was named after MOUNTAIN DEW: CODE RED. Well, it seems that this wasn't as big as anticipated...

    yeah..I heard about that thing...but I have Win 2000..ack..

From what I hear..if you get it, just shut off your PC, and it'll be gone..nothing too bad if that's all it does..

Do any of these viruses manage to do as much harm as the creators of it want you to believe it will?

So, i'm guessing it's over for now, since it's more than 12 hours since 8. Anyone get hit by it?

100 % functional and operational here! I was given the warning a bit earlier than the strike time by a friend. It doesn't really seem that serious. A computer's memory is a very flexible thing, as demonstrated by the solution to getting it out. If you turn off the comp quick, the memory's erased, so it forgets all about that dumb worm.

And they can't reach my lap top. it's like 4 towns away at the place I bought it, cuz I purchased a memory and hard disk upgrade. It's done on Tuesday and I can't friggin wait!!!

Ya know, it's weird though. I've never heard of that CODE RED drink by Mountain Dew. My friend mentioned it once and was astonished to hear I didn't know it . I guess my little living area doesn't carry it.

Is it available in test areas only right now?

There are two pops that have been available in test areas before. One is Dr Slice, a cross between Slice and Dr Pepper, which was rather good, but available only in Iowa, and then there was Coke's OK pop. I actually liked OK. I am sorry they don't make it anymore. It was available in St Paul, Minnesota.
