Shout out to all the band geeks! And a question besides...

    Like This Thread!
    =D Helloooo....

Just out of curiousity, how many of you are in bands at your high school? More specifically, how many of you participated in the Dixie Classics Festival or Disney Magic Music Days during this past month? My school did, and, I'm just nosey enough to wonder how many others did.

    Thanks guys!

Hey not all us band geeks are in high school ya know. I'm in a small ensamble. I've been first violin and first chair for a year now and been playing for 5 years now. It's great. I love it. In fact I've got a lesson tomorrow morning.

I was a band geek in High School... tho, in my High School, it was cool to be in the band, since the band was one of the only activities/sports to win any kind of awards or championships =)

I participated in Magic Music Days twice (my Freshman & Junior years) and we also performed in Universal Studios my Freshman year...

    (age note: Freshman year was 1993 - 1994 :X )

    Don't you people understand!?!

You can all call yourselves "band geeks" if you want, but here in sunny SoCali we call ourselves Bandos. I think we participated in the Disney one way back in my freshman year, but we haven't done anything like that the other years. Our school just doesn't do that kinda thing. We have our marching season, our concert season, and that's about it. The Jazz band, which I'm in, do their thing, and so do the kids who play in the band for the school's musical...which I am in as well, and which is going on this weekend actually. Just finished the second of three performances....and I can't wait till it's over. This is, for sure, the worst year yet. I have played at Disneyland other times though, but that was as part of the Santa Ana Winds, of which I'm no longer a part of, just didn't have the time. Now I'm depressed, because I realized I wont being doing any of this stuff anymore, considering I'm a senior!

I'm from southern California too, and when I was in high school, our band members were referred to as the band geeks even by themselves. I was in orchestra though and we were known as the orchestra nerds. I've participated in Disney Magic Music Days 4 times. Those were fun. The first time, I performed with the orchestra at the Carnation Plaza in Main Street. The other 3 times were soundtrack workshops where we got to experience how an orchestra records for a film. We got to play and record a the music for a scene from the Rocketeer and a scene in The Little Mermaid. The second and third time they had us play music from Disneyland's live action show Fantasmic!. It was fun and I liked the workshops a lot more than performing.

Well, in reality, its actually the "cool" thing to do to be in band at my school. All the ultra rich, snotty honors students are in band to be with their friends and get suck-up points...then there's the rest of us who were either forced into it or actually LIKE music. =P But, we do refer to ourselves as band geeks...

And Squidwardd, the only reason I asked people in (or who were in) High School was because they're the only ones who would have participated in the Magic Music Days at Disney. My real reason for asking, actually, was to figure out if I may have ran into any of you without knowing it...=P

The stories are false. Band members aren't "geeks" for the most part. There was more sex and drug use in our band than the sports teams, cheerleaders, ect.

I went to two Magic Music Days.

Anyway, it was hot down there. But fun. Except when the air conditioner on our bus broke as we crossed the state line into Florida.

Yep, I'm a bando, no doubt about it. I hang out in the band room during my breaks at school, and all of my really good friends are in band. I'm the band president and trumpet section leader. I never went to those Disney magic music days, if I remember correctly it's because they made us pay money to go play there, and I didn't want to pay for that. The last time it was offered to me was back in 8th grade, although Barb seems to think that the band went our freshman year, I don't remember that ever happening, but who cares?

The best is going to Knott's and performing there. I went there twice in 7th grade, once in 8th, and twice in 9th grade again. They don't make you pay to play there, and you get to stay the rest of the day and just go on the rides, it's awesome!

same goes for my band. we call ourselves the 'kinky cougar band' and the only reason we won sweepstakes in concert was because all the freshmen girl's dresses (including mine) were reminescient of lulu from FFX.

but we haven't really been to any of the disney magic music days or anything like that. we usually march in one of the fiesta parades here every other year, and a trip every other year. this year was a trip year. and yes, dallas is confusing and people stare at you when you go into the steak & ale wearing pajamas and flip-flops.

I was in my high school band all four years. I did the Disney music thing every year, which was just marching down Main Street playing "It's A Small World." I miss Disneyland, the magic has just vanished in the last few years.

Perhaps my most fun experience was when I was in the jazz ensemble, we lunch time concerts all the time for the students. That was great for us, and nobody threw food at us, either...

Of course, now that I am in a college band, we get to do a lot more fun stuff, games several times a month, a few community parades, and inter-college activities. But just looking forward to that one concert or the annual trip to Disneyland was the best.

    til nex time kiddies...
