I live in the middle of nowhere so I barely get to go to Best Buy, but it'd be a shame if they went away. I already lost Borders, I really don't want my shopping trips to become totally pointless...

It's a shame, because as WalMart and Target started sucking for DVD selections, and great places like Suncoast started closing, Best Buy was like my last bastion for finding newer and especially older titles.
FYE is really the only place like Suncoast video that exists anymore, in terms of the number and variety of DVDs they have. Unfortunately, a lot of FYE stores are closing too, so they're becoming harder to find. It's a shame that really the only place that you can find a really good variety of old and rare DVDs anymore is the internet.

There was an FYE store that was a lot closer to me and it doesn't come up in searches anymore. I wonder what happened to it. I see that there are also six states with no FYE stores (Alaska, Hawaii, Montana, Idaho, North Dakota, and South Dakota). Come to think of it, I'm wondering if they ever had any FYE stores. They tend to be rather overpriced though.

The FYE in the Mall of America is gone, which means the only remaining FYE in Minnesota is in Burnsville. It was only a matter of time, since a Best Buy opened up just down the hall, but it still sucks. FYE had a lot of stuff that BB deems "too old".

Our FYE is pretty useless. Next to no sales, and their CD selection, while being the biggest in the county, is far too overpriced to be useful.

FYE is just one more business that deserves to fail, IMHO - the overpriced new DVD/CD releases being a key factor in a reason I can come up with, hands down!

I'm better off just sticking to online shopping, IMHO - better prices and better treatment, even if you don't always see everything you're buying...
Tropes that are ruining Western/European Animation (and any animes involving school):
    Spoiler:
    1. Twins and/or Rich Kids as antagonists; Bullies in general. 2. Annoying jerk sibling characters and/or General sibling characters who hate each others' guts. 3. Hidden Caucasian male dominance (usually subverted to be female in anime, which can be equally as bad – and a real turnoff in general!).

DVD sets are about the only thing I get online, since I discovered that I can get them cheaper that way.

I shopped at Best Buy yesterday for the first time in... god, forever. The last time I went into the store, it was after Christmas to look at TV sets I was going to eventually buy online

But they were having an incredible sale on Supernatural Blu-rays (seasons 1-6, $18.99 each) so I picked up all six seasons. I almost bought them online but a couple of the seasons were out of stock, so I went to the brick and mortar store. But while I was browsing, I was approached by a guy trying to get me to switch my cable... Um, please leave me alone. Getting approached like that totally creeps my cheese and is likely to keep me from going back in unless there is another deal like this one that I can't miss.

I have had the cable guy approach me once inside of a Best Buy. Except it wasn't for the reason of trying to get me to switch to Comcast. He and I actually went to school together, which I thought was pretty cool. They generally get the idea when I look straight past them when I walk into the store.

So today I learned that Blockbuster and Best Buy near me is closing. Which sucks because I used Blockbuster's Game Pass and the Best Buy store has workers that are friendly. I hate having to go back to Gamefly and now I'll have to rely on Amazon more than ever.

Three Blockbusters in my state closed recently. Two of them I lived too far away from for it to be sensible to rent from them, but I lived about 25 minutes from one of them. With so many Blockbusters closing, it makes me wonder just how long the company has. I also wonder if they'd be gone completely, or would they still offer their online rental service. I'll admit I'm more of a Netflix guy, but it's good to have other options.

I've also noticed that there are no longer any active Blockbuster stores in the county where I live. The closest one to me is about an 11-minute drive, and it's in a city other than the one in which I live. That city happens to have just two standing, including the one I mentioned. The other one is about 24 minutes from me. Those two Blockbusters are the closest ones to me. There was actually a time when I was only a 3-minute drive away from the aforementioned one.

Believe it or not, where I currently live, there was a Blockbuster that was just a couple of blocks away form me that I could WALK to. That one went down in 2010. Anyway, if the Blockbuster closest to me closes, then their stores are no longer an option unless I should get a job working near one that's further from me or something. Then I'd have a reason to be near there on a regular basis. Even though there's still that one that's about a 24-minute drive away, I'm not sure I'd want to drive that far just to rent a video only to have to take it back by the following day.

The thing with Best Buy is they got lazy. The customer service was excellent compared to Circuit City, and they actually had knowledgable salespeople at in each department (at least the ones I used) for movies, games, electronics, etc. Unlike Circuit City, they didn't disappear or go to lunch while looking up something for you, and they were always organized.

Well, things have changed. The problem can kinda be blamed on the economy, but at some point they started slacking in knowledge and customer service. They don't price compare, they don't have any dvd's on the shelf, they don't know what's coming out unless they look it up, they simply have fell in quality.

For movies and music I really miss Tower Records the most of any place. I have never been in any store with the kind of customer service they had. The employees KNEW movies and music and would tell you instantly if something was out of print or something had a defect. I remember this one guy knew about the Back to the Future dvd's defect and told me there was a recall on them for improper framing. They knew things like that. The only other place I knew like that was the Virgin store in NYC probably about over fifteen years ago and they KNEW music.

Right now those kinda employees are few and far between in some stores. I do know one guy at a Walmart in the movie section who KNOWS his stuff. He even hints me on upcoming sales.

I believe that Blockbuster (or at least the brick-and-mortar version) is being phased out by its corporate parent Dish Network. I don't think that DN has any intention of saving Blockbuster.

What makes you think that? There are still plenty of Blockbusters around, even if not much as before.

Also, this FYE store near me had closed a long time ago, and it's now a pizza restaurant.

I spotted on Google Street View, a Radio Shack store at the intersection of Broadway, St. Nicholas Avenue and 169th Street who was in operation in June 2011 when the picture was taken. Here in Canada, Canadian Radio Shack stores had been buyed by another group who rebranded them as The Source. And the more recent news about them isn't rosy. http://online.wsj.com/article/BT-CO-...24-713631.html

It begins. A Best Buy near me is already re-branding, I assume to a smaller store.

Guh, this is the wrong approach, WRONG. The most common complaint I read about Best Buy is that their employees won't stop selling them things, so naturally, the solution is to do even more of that than before....
