Apparently it takes over the mind of the host and causes a dillusional state and then eventually sprouts from all over the dead body. It's kinda like a quasi zombification and can also spread throught the air. Sofar it's just been insects that are vulnerable, but the fungi adapted to be specie specific in terms of what insects it infects.

It would be very creepy if it made the jump to higher forms of life like Lizards, birds, and mammals. Even worse if humans harnased it into some form of bio-weapon.

However Cordyceps has been used in Chinese medicine lore for centuries, so it's safe for humans to eat apparently.
