    "In" - Women "in" Science

    Like This Thread!
A search of "in" brought this to my attention. Science is such a fundumental human endever,,, is it important what gender discovers it? What do you know of that women have discovered?

I don't think this counts but a woman made those little tables for pizza boxes. I know this is not science but still.

Women in science (and math)? Things are steadily improving. Within another generation, I don't think it'll be a big issue. Now, women in engineering? That's a dire situation.

Found this at a Science and Women site..

Honestly, I don't know that much..but here is a citation on a young woman who worked on the DNA moleculle. Sadly she died very young, and of course, never got real credit for her work.......

Born: London, England, July 25, 1920

Died: London, England, April 16, 1958

    Pioneer Molecular Biologist

There is probably no other woman scientist with as much controversy surrounding her life and work as Rosalind Franklin. Franklin was responsible for much of the research and discovery work that led to the understanding of the structure of deoxyribonucleic acid, DNA. The story of DNA is a tale of competition and intrigue, told one way in James Watson's book The Double Helix, and quite another in Anne Sayre's study, Rosalind Franklin and DNA. James Watson, Francis Crick, and Maurice Wilkins received a Nobel Prize for the double-helix model of DNA in 1962, four years after Franklin's death at age 37 from ovarian cancer.

Mary Calkins is a not so well known psychologist who contibuted a lot to psychology... but this now brings us to the question of whether psychology is a science and if Mary should be known for a contribution in science.... um well being a psych major in progress, i'd say we're still debating that hot issue no thanks to Wundt and his craaazy ideas....

uh, ahem... nways, she was really important and not many people know of her; but now you do (most of her work was contributed to the psychology of self and she was denied a harvard psych degree cause she was female although she did manage to become the first female president of the american psychological association... men, who needs them )

Dr. Jane Goodall is a very important naturalist who studied chimps.

Here is a link with others.

I'm no grammar nazi, but I've noticed you do this in some of your posts.

Never use more than one comma at a time. Never ever. Use the ellipsis, the three periods or ..., very sparingly. Despite millions of Internet posts it does not mean a pause. It means something has been left out.

uh, i kinda always write this way informally on the net just for the heck of it. my "..." means i just dont want to end the sentence you know just going on... you know... like that... i believe i use my commas correctly when i'm just typing formally like in sotries essays and what not. sorry if that bothered you, but that's just me, mate.

I was actually talking to Kagetsu, but you do misuse the ellipsis. I wouldn't have guessed the usage you explained is what you are going for if you had not explained it. So, at least with me, your deviation from relatively standard English means we are not communicating effectively. We have to have rules, friend. Without rules, what do we have? We have anarchy, that's what we have.
