Yeah the same thing can happen with Dogs...
animals don't get red eye, they either get orange or green eye.
Cat's have relatively big eyes so the light will reflect back more...
Look at these two pictures I took:

Umm.. it's not her eyes that the flash got to make her eyes look cooler, it's what's beside her in the first picture.

Uh no. I have taken over a hundred pictures of her and this is the first time that a different light came up.

It's the same thing that happens when you take a picture of a mirrorOriginally Posted by Sailor Chibi Otaku
it was just the angle and lighting that caused it. If you look hoe the dot sits in relation to the cat's face, it's pretty much a straight line to her right eye, which also shows orange discolorment mixed with the green.
Nope. There's nothing to reflect that behind her. My walls are too dark.
I took both pictures one right after another. As I've said, I took over a hundred pictures of her with various angles in the same spot (not always in my room) and it hasn't happened before.

There's nothing that it reflected off of.

It's entirely possable, the interior of a cat's eye is made so it can absorb as much light as possable so it can see well in a dark area. I'm guessing from the picture that you were probably standing a yard or so away and were directly facting the cat. So almost like how light reflects off of a mirror, the flash of light reflected off the back of the cat's eye and back to you, which is why it shows up in a ball like that. The reason why the second picture doesn't have the ball of light is because the cat is lower down to the ground and is not on the same level and therefore not directly facing the flash. It's just a photo flub that commonly happens, I've removed plenty of balls of light from pictures using photoshop.Originally Posted by Sailor Chibi Otaku

I think that it has to do with the light reflecting off the cats eyes onto something on the lens. Ive seen this before, I guess I just never really thought about it much.

I bet you could make some money if you auction that picture as "ghost cat" or "magic cat" or "cat communes with fairies" on ebay.
if you want my honest opinion, just reread Gigan's posts.
