Due to the Atkins Diet craze, Hostess hasn't made any revenue on their snack cakes, therefore they are taking the ax to a few of the brands...Twinkies are among the ones that are going to be discontinued

Sorry, I didn't see the CNN thing, I just saw this article earlier today. I suppose it's possible that they're going to discontinue the twinkie, but since it's easily their most recognized and almost certainly their best selling brand, it would not make much sense to get rid of it over some of their less popular lines...

Who cares? Twinkies suck. All it is is sponge cake and cream. No chocolate, no strawberry, no vanilla, just sponge cake and cream. I much prefer the Little Debbie strawberry shortcake roll. It's kind of like a twinkie, only in addition to the cake and cream, it has strawberry filling and vanilla frosting on the bottom. They're so good. Anyway, Hostess should bring back Choco-diles. Those are like a twinkie, only chocolate covered. But, you know, snack cakes are bad for you anyway. I haven't eaten them in years.

Most food companies are cutting back on the number of different brands, and offering the rest in a variety of packaging sizes. It's a development strongly tied to Wal-Mart's need to sell things ASAP, according to a businessweek article this past summer. I'm guessing this is connected.

Funny thing is the Atkins diet is the worst, least healthy diet for you. Starving yourself is healthier for you than that diet, with all the crap you put in your system and never eat any carbs, carbs are what give you energy. Your heart can't take that much fat intake without having some carbs or another form of energy. You're so vulnerable to heart attacks from that it's not even funny. I run cross country, and carbs are the best things for you before and after you run. I don't see why you'd limit it. A nice thing to know before you go on the Atkins plan is it seems that old Mr. Atkins died of a heart attack or some sort of heart malfunction.

Twinkies aren't exactly healthy, but every so often when you just gotta have on you gotta have one. It's lame they're getting taken off the shelves though. Oh well, Ho-ho's are better anyway.

I will eat my hat if Twinkies actually go away because of this, I just can't see it happening -- surely even if Interstate Bakeries goes out of business some other enterprising company will scoop up the more valuable brands (what, Twinkies're valuable, they've just GOT to be! Uhh...don't they?), and the golden spongey wonder we all know and love will live on in grocery stores and not just in our hearts (and our arteries)...

But hey, even if Twinkies really -are- going to be discontinued, urban legend has it that those suckers have shelf lives of sheer -decades- -- stock up now and you'll be set for life!

I always liked Twinkies Lite better..for some strange reason (usually, the Diet versions of stuff taste worse!)But it is sad, I'd like to se them get cream all over their face when this Atkins FAD finally dies out.

Yeah, I know, it just pisses me off so much that people are so freakin braindead that they just go along with a diet craze without doing any research. Every other commercial on TV is for some new low carb food. Just because it's low carb doesn't mean it's healthy! All it would take is a quick search on the internet to learn a little about nutrition but people just buy into these dieting fads without question. It disgusts me.
