Does anybody know how to play chess? I've just got this book from the Library that teaches you techniques and shows you how to play and what pieces are important aren't.

Yes actually, I do. But I really, really stink at it, because I don't have the patience anymore to try and figure out my opponent's strategy, or even really plan out one of my own. Once we get past the opening moves and I castle king-side, well, the game's pretty much over for me, because I just make up random stuff after that.

I have a couple of books that have some strategies in them, teach you the notation used, and a little bit about the game itself, but I haven't read them in years.

I can play, it's acutally not that hard. About the only thing to remember besides how the pieces move is that white goes first and what "castleing" is...

I don't like to play though, it's way to stressfull! You have to think like 40 moves in advance in every direction...

I know how to play, and I used to be pretty good at it too. Went to 2 tournaments back when I was in high school and got 3rd place in both of 'em. I haven't played chess in atleast 2-3 years now cause I just got tired of it and moved on to different hobbies

I do sorta. I mean, I know how each of pieces move and such, but I'm really bad when it comes to strategies and stuff.

    Creative rather than strategic thinker

I have a fondness for the game and know the rules well, I'm just really awful at it.

I used to play with my father but we haven't played in years. Also used to play back in highschool I was pretty average as far as wins/losses go.

Well, I know how to play in that I know the rules of the game, but I was never any good at the strategy of it. It's too abstract for me. Give me a nice straightforward game of checkers or Risk any day of the week. Especially Risk, 'cause that's got diplomacy in it. I love games like Risk and Monopoly where you have to cooperate while competing.

Yes, I know how to play chess. In fact, when I was in middle school, I was part of a club that would play chess during lunch and recess once or twice a week.

Thing is, I haven't played in a while. I know how to play, but I have probably lost some of my skills. I was never that good, but I could win occasionally.

Now I just kind of play once in a blue moon.

I used to play chess fairly regularly, especially in Grade 8 and 9. It was fun, though I generally lost more games than I won.

Haven't really played it for a while, though, so I'm probably worse than I was before.

I used to play Dad almost everynight at dinner. I was decent. Over the years, I've let my mind get too lazy in strategic thinking, unfortunately. So if I were to play today, I'd be just horrible.

Now I'm spoiled for the OVA, and I've only watched the original "Bubbles Vanderbilt" series and the followup "Bubbles Vanderbilt Z"

I have another question, as well... what happened to the first two Bubbles Vanderbilts?

I also know how to play, but am not by any stretch of the imagination a great player. I have played against a few people, and there was one guy who whooped me every time. If I play on the computer, I have to set the difficulty level at moderate and sometimes I win, sometimes I lose. Anything harder than that and I get whooped each time, and anything easier than that I win each time and that gets too boring.
I'll try being nicer if you try being smarter.

I didn't know how to play chess until I finally tought myself two years ago - and I've become rather addicted. I think my all-time record thus far is a few games above .500, and that's not bad for someone like me.
