    Early Daredevil DVD News

    Like This Thread!
I read this at Superhero Hype!:

You'll see rapper Coolio's name in the credits for Daredevil, but you won't see his face in the movie.

According to the film's writer and director, Mark Steven Johnson, it seemed like a cool idea to have a major subplot involving a character named Daunte Jackson in the superhero adventure.

By day, avenger Daredevil is the blind lawyer Matt Murdock. Johnson wanted to show what a good lawyer he is, so he created a storyline in which Murdock (Ben Affleck) and his assistant Franklin Nelson (Jon Favreau) were trying to prove their client Daunte Jackson was innocent of his murder charge.

"They actually go out and do the investigating themselves. It shows a very important side to Matt's character.

"He is as much the champion of the innocent by day as he is by night," explains Johnson.

This subplot is just 20 minutes of film footage that will end up on the DVD version of Daredevil.

"You'll see a very different movie on the DVD. We had to tone down quite a bit of the violence to get our PG rating for the cinema release, and there are important scenes for each of the major characters that had to be trimmed."

By that, I'm guessing that means we are going to have another LOTR like special edition with the whole extra pieces seamlessly grafted into the movie?

Early to reveal this as I've not seen the film yet but am now tempted to wait for the DVD release... lost themselves a ticket there!

I noticed something was up when I didn't see Coolio in the final cut. I also wonder if Stick was in some deleted footage?

Well, that sells it for me - I'm waiting for the DVD I hate going to the theater anyway - my guide dog always ends up eating something unhealthy and ends up sick for a week - ok not always, like twice, but still! And this DVD sounds too good to pass up - especially if they put the 20 minutes right back into the movie like with the FOTR SE DVD. Very cool.

Guess that's two tickets now, eh?

Stick wasn't used in the film because MSJ said there wasn't any real need for him to be there and he reminded him too much of Mr. Magachuci (the guy from the Karate Kid, I'm not even going to attempt to spell his name well).

This movie is gonna need every dropped scene to put back on. Only a good movie in my eyes, but with these dropped scenes it could be an excellent movie. Bring on the DVD.

2 versions of the disc will be available. The theatrical release in June (a 2 disc set) and a directors cut rumoured to be about by christmas.

I am getting both. Hopefully one with have an audio commentary with *SHINE* Ben Affleck*SHINE*!

I had read a quote that the director had said that there will be only one version of the DVD, that being the director's cut. So no double dipping. I may be wrong however. I'm going to go look for it.

Well, looks like I was wrong. The one in June and the one in Christmas.... Man, I have to wait longer now..

Here's the quote from MSJ, on the SHH Board:
Hey guys! First off, I'm thrilled to hear that you liked the movie. This movie was made for Daredevil fans first and foremost. The only opinions I care about are yours and the artists and writers who put DD on the map. I never anticipated any critics or outsiders to really get it. Daredevil has always been a more obscure character. A darker and more conflicted hero. So the fact that we did so great at the box office is only a bonus as far as I'm concerned. For me, the real reward was bringing DD to life.
Now I must skulk in depression because I must wait so long for the good DVD. No double dippin for me.

Crap, some of the quote got cut off, here's the rest:

"Here's the latest on the DVD...

We were planning on having the theatrical release with a Director's cut (a branching version) in the same set. The problem we ran into is that there is so much information on the disc (massive amounts of behind the scenes, art, interviews with DD creators Miller, Lee, Smith, etc.) that there just wasn't enough room for both. So there will be 2 separate versions. The first is the theatrical release (2 disc) which is out in June. The second is the Director's cut which I am currently cutting. I don't know the release date yet--guessing Christmas? Anyhow, it's a half hour longer and quite a bit different than the theatrical release. It will be interesting to compare the two. They are quite different.

Thank you all for the support and kind words! "
