Come Join Me In Genocide! Death to the Snapper!

    Like This Thread!
Okay, I'm fed up with snapper cases (as most of us are). Because of my ever expanding DVD collection I was forced to buy a larger rack to hold my DVDs, now that they're higher up an more easily seen I've really begun to hate the snappers sticking out and not fitting right. So I've decided just to ditch them (Many people are doing this now).

If you want to join me in replacing the crapper cases, all you need is a program called MediaFace II (free) from Neato.com. The program features a template and editing tools to create, among other things, DVD covers (aka "wraps"). You can either buy their special glossy perferated paper (20 for $15) or just go out and buy legal paper. Then, either find the cover online or scan it in, print it out, and slip it in a spare keep case.

Example: Batman Beyond - The Movie

If you're going to scan the covers, recommended since it will be better quality, simply pull off the snaps on the back of the cardboard (they come off real easily). For best results you'll have to touch up the holes where the "teath" went in something like photoshop.

One thing that really ticks me off about the snapper issue though? That AOL now owns Warner Brothers and they continue to use the snapper case in the US, despite the fact that the free AOL CDs come in nice keep cases (Coincidentally, those AOL cases make good cases for this project).

Well, lots of stores sell extra keep cases just like you can buy empty jewel cases for CDs. Stores that sell movies or video games (PS2 cases are DVD cases) have them, or you can order online. If you go online you can find all sorts of cases including special colored ones or even clear. Amaray is tops as far as quality is concerned.

Also, as I mentioned earlier - AOL now gives away most of their CDs in DVD cases, sometimes its a little tricky to get their stickers off but you can go into a many stores and grab 5, 10, or even 20 of them, no one cares.

YOu should be able to find them easy at any music stores or tech stores. My local FUTURE SHOP (Soon to be BEST BUY) has 20 Keep Cases for $8.99 - a great deal. Search them out!

To get those stickers off...Goo Gone will work wonders. Just dab a bit on the sticker, let it sit for 5 mintues or so, and wipe away. Works every time.

While this is a good idea, I doubt I'll be doing it to my cases. I just don't like the thought of it. I like to keep things in as good and as original condition as possible. Besides it's cost extra money that I can't afford.

This really is nothing new, but I agree with DG on this one. While the cases are a pain in the neck, keeping them in their original packaging only increses the value of the DVDs. And if they go out of print, you can sell them on ebay for a pretty penny, a pretty penny people will not want to spend once they see your home made keep case insert.

Yeah, I think I'll keep mine in their original cases too. It sounds like too much trouble and time anyway.

I'd still suffer the extra fraction of a quarter inch sticking out from my DVD shelves where my snapper cases are than to have them empty and cluttering up my closets. Of course, when you have as many DVDs as I have, space is of a necessity! Which is why I am beginning to frown on collector's tins.

Yes, while all those tins & special packaging are cool they really don't fit in with the other films. I've typically been placing these in their own section, infront of the box sets (Which I also keep seperate)

I got the Repo Man collector's tin today, but I was wondering before I even bought it, "Where the hell am I going to put this???" Oh, I love buying DVDs, but I hate trying to find places for them all!

You do exactly what I do! All the WB/NL DVDs I have have their own little shelves becuase of their...special...packaging. I may have to start a new shelf since I'm about out of space there.

I don't wanna brag, but I can usually get any sticker off w/ little goo left. The AOL ones are comin less sticky now.

I do like the idea of the switching case...and I do hate Snapper cases..but I'm with DG..I don't have the money either...and glossy paper is expensive..around here anyway..

once you take off all of the cardboard on the WB snapper cases..it's the cheapest piece of plastic ever..it's pathetic.

All of my DVDs were all snappers. Then I bought X-Men (hoping it was a regular case..it wasn't)..then all snappers and a special case..now I bought the 1966 Batman DVD...now I have a normal case..

About 15 - 20 of my DVDs are Snap Case and have their own shelves. They can be a pain to arrnage, but hey - aslong as I get my movie. The vast majority, save ten or so, are the normal keep cases.

I think I only have 8 snapper DVDs(all are WB of coures). I only have 20 DVDs though. But I'll keep them the way they are. I am with DG, as long as I get the movie...
