    DVD petitions

    Like This Thread!
I wanted to post this for newbies and for those of you who didn't see the link to this on the WF boards. This is a very good site, and I highly recommend you go to it and sign the petitions even if you are only remotely interested in these shows on DVD.

I agree with ol' Cal! It's very possible that a couple of the Batman petitions that used to be listed here, and have since been dropped becuase they ended, may be partially responsible for the BOX set we'll be getting! WF did a very successful petition of over 2500 signatures, and a 2nd was listed at the above site, plus another at 123petitons.com as well, I think. Sometimes, petitions do work! Check 'im out, folks!

There have been other highly successful petition drives as well, most remarkable is the petition drive to get Star Wars out on DVD. As far as I know, we'd still be without any hope of Episode One on DVD if it wasn't for the mad petition drive that went up when Lucas put it out on VHS and Laserdisc, but no DVD.

Also, Princess Mononoke got delayed with the help of a petition drive to get the original Japanese language track on there.

I've signed petitions in the past and am seeing the DVDs come out now, such as Robotech and Video Girl AI. So these things really do work. I hope ALL of you sign the petition to get Daria on DVD!

And an expensive box set at that! I am sure each movie will be two discs at least, but I am hoping he makes a three disc box set for A New Hope, like the Brazil box set from Criterion. There is just so much for that movie alone that deserves to be seen on DVD that three DVDs would be justified.

I just hope Lucas spreads these apart a tad, so it isn't such a massive blow to my pocket all at once.

    Thanks!

I just found out about this message board - glad to see some familiar names floating about.

Thanks for mentioning our Petitions page - it really is one of the main reasons why I started Animation on DVD.com.

At the time of the site's launch, the whole Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker fiasco was going on - and that really motivated me to include a petition section. So far, we haven't gotten an overwhelming response from the studios on any of the titles that we've run petitions for, but some information was gleened from a couple of them. For instance, I found out that Nelvana is actively pursuing a release of Rock N Rule in some fashion (a theatrical re-release was mentioned), but legal red tape is currently holding that up. Universal said that they would re-examine releasing Balto onto DVD as a result of our petition. So, I guess some good has come of them.

The turnout for some of our petitions has been embarrasingly sparse though and any help to promote them would be appreciated. Just to give you some idea - in the two months that we had a petition to get Disney's Victory Through Air Power released, there were less than 40 signatures. OUCH!

As I said before, thanks for the recommendation and the support.
We've just launched two more petitions (actually one of them hasn't even formally been announced on our site) so please take a look and sign the petitions if you feel compelled:
    http://www.animationondvd.com/petitions.html .

It's great to see that ToonZone is developing a DVD section - there is definitely more room for coverage of this genre on DVD.

    Again, thanks for your support.

Hey Keith, it's nice to have you here. Whenever the Toon Zone DVD page is finished, I'll make sure to include a link to your page on it. I think it's in everyone's best interest to promote animated DVDs, and the more sites that do so, the better.

Agreed. If people think that just sitting back that everything will just happen is wrong. We gotta put our own foot forward, and it does seem to be helping. BATMAN episodes may actually be going to video finally. A BIG thing for fans. THis could be just the tip, too.

Glad to see you here, Keith! I have to say I check out your site a few times each week for not only news but for the petions, too. I have signed my share of them! Hope you like the boards!

    well...read this:

Could be spoiler material..it has nothing to do with EP2 or EP3...but..just in case:

    Spoiler:

Rebel has proved their worthiness before, and now they chime in with something we cannot even come close to have confirmation on. Here's what we do know: After Episode III, there will be a definitive version and complete set of DVDs of all of the movies. In the meantime, there may be versions of the films on DVD, but nothing like this final set.
Something to keep in mind as you buy a few different versions now and then have to buy the final one in 2006. But here's where it gets interesting. What possible changes could be made to tie in the entire series into one seamless twelve-hour marathon? There's an official list starting somewhere, which may include some of the following:

Episode 3 won't be the last time you'll see a lot of the main characters from the prequels in a Star Wars film. They'll also be in some of the sequels. Let me explain.
I believe it is called "The Archival Editions"...The re-release of all six films after a break following Episode 3. My source is good and I know this is happening, and frankly George Lucas is beyond a genius to think of this to make more money. Also this may explain some of the reasons episodes 4-6 haven't hit DVD yet. So here is some of the cool stuff you'll see.

During production on Episode 3 they will also be filming stuff for episodes 1, 4 , 5 and 6 to add into the Archival Editions.

Bail Organa senate scenes in Episode 1 to be shot added later to where the other Bail's lost scenes were supposed to be.

Also the last time you see Bail Organa won't be escorting Padme and baby onto a starship and blasting into the stars in E3. An older Bail will have some scenes added into Episode 4 prior to his planet being blown up by the Death Star.

Those being added into E4 will be a senate scene where The Emperor will make a cameo. Arguing with you guessed it ...Bail Organa... Plus a scene after the senate hearing where The Emperor contacts Vader and orders him to "Wipe out" Senator Organa's planet.

A holographic photo of Qui Gon will be added to Ben Kenobi's house in ANH. Also other little Jedi Tidbit's from the first 3 episodes will be added in his house. "Old friends long gone."

A scene on Coruscant in Episode 5 showing a demolished Jedi Temple. Cutting to the Emperor speaking with Vader about the son of Skywalker.

We'll have a few more from the rumor mill soon enough, but in the meantime we want to know what you would change or add in this final version.

You can read the real version of it over at TFN . I guess Lucas might be dumping some crap on us after all!
