But not too much came out this week. Well, 13 Days.
I'm gona try and make this a weekly post here. New DVDs are rleeased every Tuesday, and I'm just curious what new releases people rent or buy. This post'll last until next Monday, then a new 'NEW DVD TUESDAY' thread will be put up. Cool?

and monkeybone's out too. haven't seen it yet, but i'd like to...
The Die Hard trilogy came out today, in a nice 6 disc box set, which I can't wait to pick up. Sure, the movies are brianless actions movies, but they are GOOD brainless action movies!

I'll be buying the Die Hard box set eventually, right now I don't have the cash for it (or the time) since I just got Gran Turismo 3. I'll probably rent 13 Days, may buy it if I like it enough - should go well on the shelf next to JFK.

If you're going to pick up the Die Hard box set, now's the time to do it - it retails for $80, and Best Buy currently has it for $49!!! In fact, its such a good price that all the Best Buys in this area sold out - I had to get a raincheck for it.

I'm aware of the deal but I actually don't live near any Best Buys, unfortuneatly. Costco will probably have it for something around that, if not I know Fred Meyer has it for $57.

Monkeybone was enjoyable, tho I also liked his work on Nightmare Before Christmas and James and the Giant Peach. I still have yet to decide if I will buy it, tho. I rented it, but it just doesn't have the same magic as those other two. It's good, but I haven't decided if I want to own it yet.Originally posted by flhero311

i like tim burton but i could not stand the nightmare before christmas all my friends tell me i am wierd.
You have to have a twisted, sado-masochistic relationship with all those old Rankin-Bass holiday specials to really like Nightmare Before Xmas. I love it, but I understand why a lot of people don't.Originally posted by mxyzptlk

I'm planning on getting a DVD player in about a month or so. First purchase: Vertigo. Or Psycho (the REAL one), maybe. Lotsa classics, though: Hitchcock and Hawks, mainly.
You will definatly enjoy your player. I thought NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS was a great little twisted flick. I mean come on, that severed head gag was awesome.

NIGHTMARE was a true gem of a movie. I loved the DVD so much, and it even includes an outtake with Tim Burton's severed head!
It's nice to know that i am not the only one who liked Nightmare Before Christmas. I like most all of Tim Burton's movies though. As far as Die Hard goes, I really only enjoyed the First one so I'll probably just get it.![]()

JAMES & THE GIANT PEACH rocked. Disney just did a bad job promoting it.

I am seriously thinking about adding this one to my DVD collection. The more I think about it, the less I am certain I want to spend money on Monkeybone. I still don't know. Anybody else buy Monkeybone on DVD? What did you think of it?
I liked J&GP overall. I didn't much like the kid, but there are few child actors I can stomach. (One of my favorite film clips is of WC Fields surreptitiously giving Baby LeRoy a good swift kick.)Originally posted by DickGrayson

James and the Giant Peach was awesome! I have very fond memories of the book from when I was a kid - I used to read that thing over and over. So, of course, I was thrilled to see it made into a movie finally.

I don't know if its too late to post in this, a new Tuesday is already approaching afterall...but oh well.
I bought the Die Hard set and I'm a little dissapointed so far. To start out with, packaging stinks. The main box is cool but the DVDs come in those oversized double DVD cases and in grey no less, which looks like crap. The booklets inside each aren't very nice. As for content, I've only watched the first so far and I remember liking the film a lot more, hopefully the others won't betray my memory as much. The extras are also rather kinda dissapointing for the first film, its supposed to be a 5-Star and really has nothing incredible on it, quite a lot of out takes, trailers & TV spots, and a slideshow is pretty much it. Theres a commentary but I haven't listened to it yet. One big thing for the DVD though, the menus are awesome.
