    Carrotblanca on DVD!

    Like This Thread!
I bought the DVD of Casablanca today and within the documentary on the disc, there's a long clip from Carrotblanca.

Technically, Carrotblanca is the first LT/MM to appear on DVD (although just a clip.)

With "The Neverending Story II" DVD coming soon, Box Office Bunny will be the first full-length LT/MM to appear on DVD.

According to some rumors, "Looney Tunes After Dark" might be put on DVD (according to DVDProfiler)

    well.....

Would you please give a link to exactly where on DVDprofiler it talked about a possible DVD of Looney Tunes After Dark? Thanks.

I wanted to see exactly what cartoons are on that laserdisc, so I did a search and found this page. But take a look at these other great out of print laser discs! Some of these have excellent selections of cartoons!

The number of people who currently own DVD players is way larger than the number who ever owned laserdisc players. So why don't they just take the masters from these laser discs, and transfer them to DVD? It should be relatively easy to do, and the quality should be prety good. And they'd make a ton of money. Just take a look at all these great cartoons!

    Yeah!

If WB just copied those compilations, but used brand-new transfers (no computer colored versions, though), that would be just fine.

Also, if they added all the toons not on laserdisc (Buddy, Bosko, assorted ones) that would be neat.

I meant that they wouldn't even have to use new transfers. Just take the masters that were used to make the laser discs, and run them through an MPEG-2 encoder. They could have them all out on DVD within a month, without having to put much effort into it at all.

Have you SEEN DVDs made from LD transfers? They look like crap compared to DVD transfers. MGM still makes DVDs from LD transfers, and they look TERRIBLE.

Some laser transfers ported to DVD are good (The Abyss: SE), but most of the time like TServo said...they suck.

If WB made new transfers...especially for the B&W cartoons, they'd look excellent. My "It Happened One Night" DVD was transfered from a nitrate print and it really makes the picture look great.

DVD's can hold 5 GB per layer (minus one GB for double layered discs).

Single layered, single side DVD: 5 GB
Double Layered, Single side DVD: 9 GB
Single Layer, Double sided: 10 GB
    double layer, sided: 18 GB

WB could easily put 3 hours of cartoons per side. (plus menus and etc)
