    Should DVD's include entire soundtrack?

    Like This Thread!
This was a discussion I had at another board. What if DVD's just elminated the soundtrack altogether. Would that make them more profitable, or is this impossible? It doesn't seem likely cause the record companies would lose money with the profit of the film, I think. But as far as I heard, some DVD's do have the soundtrack. Like you can pop it in your discman and listen to the actual soundtrack, is this true?

The only one I know of that you can play in a regular CD player is Blair Witch 2. It has the movie on one side, the CD on the other, but that is such a bad movie, they were reaching for any help they could get to sell that piece of garbage off.

The DVDs I know of and personally own that have soundtracks on them are Apollo 13 and 1941. But you have to access them on a DVD player as a bonus feature and therefore cannot be played in a regular CD player.

A number of discs include isolated scores, but you have to play them in your DVD player...

    BAD IDEA

I think that would be HORIBLE if it were to happen!

I got the sound track to "Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back" ages ago, shortly after the film came out (though I think the soundtrack might have even been released sooner) cause it was so kick ass!

If I had had to wait till I got the DVD, I'd be angry.....Soundtracks compliment a movie, not compete against it like DVDs do.

I like isolated scores a lot! Since I have a DVD-ROM on my computer, I'll listen to some of the isolated scores like a CD.

I think the inclusion of a soundtrack CD with a DVD is a fantastic idea. It's been done before, but I wish more DVDs would include them. Especially those that don't have a properly released CD soundtrack.

I know Dario Argento's Suspiria and Opera Limited Editions both come with a seperate CD with the movie's score on it, which can be play on any CD player.

I don't know about should, but it's nice when they do. It may be a pain for some movies though if it doesn't have that great of a sound track, and making them only play on DVD-ROMs makes them less then half use useful to the buyer.

North By Northwest and most of the Doctor Who releases come with isoloated soundtrack.

Personally I think it's the best idea since sliced bread - or since commentaries anyway..

I'd LOVE to see it done on Flash Gordon, The Black Hole, Batman and Star Trek II (actually not the latter as I have just bought it!)

Repo Man also came with the soundtrack in the SE tin. While I can understand wanting the soundtracks before the DVD is released, I think sometimes it would be better, especially with older titles where the soundtracks may not be so easy to find, to either include it on the DVD as an easter egg, or have the CD of the soundtrack included with a special edition release of the title.

Reason why I asked, (This is GL2k2 I just changed name and lost password.) is that Highlander is coming to DVD with the video versions of Queens Prince's of the Universe and such. Why not include the soundtrack "It's a kind of magic" as well? Queen is not going to be making any new albums ever again, and it should be included with the DVD.
