    Teletubbies DVD specs and more

    Like This Thread!
I know several of you are salivating like dogs over this pending release, so I felt it best to share with you the information I have just gathered from the latest edition of Video Store Magazine (a kind of insider magazine for us video store people!)

The DVD will come with 40 minutes of extras, including a musical montage, interviews with the creators, four live action features with baby animals (OH BOY!), and feature commentary with Jerry Falwell. HAHA, just kidding on that last one!

It's not the specs I really wanted to point out here tho, it's the "and more" I thought I would share with you.

George Parker, director of family entertainment for Warner Brothers, is quoted as saying, "This is the first for 'Teletubbies' and I can't think of a better franchise to start with [I BET WE COULD! ]. It is so well known to parents." Yeah, not like those obscure Batman and Superman characters from that cartoon show we put out, he went on to add. They apparently felt the need to bring this title to DVD asap because they saw a need. And, as Parker adds, "We would like to lead with our best foot forward and 'Teletubbies' is a perfect match."

While DVD sales are up 183% from last year to this time, titles for kids and families are up 210% (But what about sales for PRE SCHOOLERS????). The article goes on to use the success of the Barney DVDs as a good reason for them to use the format to put the Teletubbies on DVD.

Hey, EVERYTHING should be on DVD. VHS is just crap, anyway. Just like all music should be on CD (or, DVD Audio now, I guess.) But like was pointed out in a previous thread about this, there are just so much better titles that would sell just as well if not more. If the Batman and Superman cartoons couldn't sell as the great selling family titles, then I don't know what. Warner is also praising the success of the Scooby and Powerpuff Girls titles on DVD, so it's not like what they have put out so far is doing poor sales. In fact, the titles they have released so far have prooven to them that people are really embracing the format. What will it take to get them to put Batman, Superman, and Batman Beyond all out on DVD?
I'll try being nicer if you try being smarter.

I'm glad WB is starting with Teletubbies for their DVDs -- not! Even more Scooby-Doo would be better.
