March and May Doctor Who DVD restoration articles up.
The Doctor Who Restoration Team has just put up their articles regarding and also confirming two hotly anticipated releases.
GENESIS OF THE DALEKS is the first of two meetings between Tom Baker and his old nemises. Due to the length of the story (six parts) this will be a two disc set. Also of note, Genesis is one of the highest selling VHS titles here in the states so expect a speedy R1 release, probably in June.
INFERNO is one of the highest regarded Doctor Who serials ever, and also yours truly's personal favourite. In it, Jon Pertwee must prevent the destruction of the Earth from the fires of the exposed Earth's core while attempting to escape a doomed alternate world. Like Genesis, this will be a two disc set due to it's length (seven parts) as well as it's archive nature which is discussed in the article.

Seriously though, it'll be nice to see another NTSC standard story restored (as much a possible) to something approximating the original PAL look; it just makes things that much more better than the muddy 2nd generational look.
No mention of the brief radio scene though; I wonder if it will be removed in the interests of authenticity towards the original UK broadcast and included as an extra, or will the RT just keep it in the story?

Genesis is a good story, but I've seen it tooo many times to actually be excited about. Whenever the BBC decided to repeat Doctor Who (which, for a channel infamous for repeats was few and far between) it was ALWAYS Genesis. I remember being shocked that a few years back, on another set of repeats, of seven years of Tom Baker AGAIN it was this story.
It's a fine tale, if a little long. Commentary sounds fun. While Baker is not the zest on commentaries he is in real life, I still welcome his audio appearances.
As for Inferno, I don't know. Good idea, but slightly silly. I suppose you either love it or hate it for that. I was never a massive fan of Pertwee, although this first season was certainly a quality one. I've just never been a massive fan of Inferno and for that I am in the minority. Certainly for me, one of the weaker stories of that season. But hey, it's still not terrible.
