December 20th, 2005 -- what are you getting this week?

    Like This Thread!
    Theatrical Releases
A bunch of recent theatrical releases are making their way to DVD just in time for the tail-end of the Christmas rush -- The Brothers Grimm, Cry_Wolf (review), The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Four Brothers, Must Love Dogs, Rebound, and Serenity. A bunch of those are being released in separate full-frame and widescreen editions, and the horror movies are available in rated and unrated versions, so be sure to give the DVDs a second look to make sure you're grabbing the one you want.

Although they may not have played on as many screens, Frankie and Johnny are Married, The Great Raid (available in an unrated director's cut), and November are also hitting DVD today.

    Catalog Titles and Re-Releases
To ride on Munich's coattails, two other films related to the event -- 21 Hours at Munich and One Day in September -- are being issued on DVD. Other catalog titles coming out this week include Here Come the Tigers and Seven Men from Now.

There's only one notable re-release, so I won't bother to give it its own heading: the "razzle-dazzle" edition of Chicago.

    Direct to Video
Heading direct to DVD are Tom Green's Bob the Butler and the Lion's Gate horror flicks Creep and Santa’s Slay.

    TV-on-DVD
It's a lighter than usual week on the TV-on-DVD front. The only season sets are:

    • The Amazing Race: Season 7
    • Battlestar Galactica: Season 2.0
    • ER: Season 4
    • Party of Five: Season 2

...along with Martha’s Baking Favorites and Once Upon a Mattress.

    In Closing...
For a list of some of the best prices as well as the latest price drops for existing titles, check Mike Frezon's weekly thread on the Home Theater Forum and SalesCircular.com. A relatively comprehensive list of this week's releases can be found at DVD Talk and ComingSoon.net.

So -- what are you getting this week? Serenity will probably do it for me.

Yesterday, for my final trip to the mall before Christmas, here's what I bought:

    Superman--The Movie: SE
    Kong: King of Atlantis
Winx Club Vol. 2: The Power of Dragon Fire

    That's all! Merry Christmas, everybody!!!!!
    Best Kim Possible Dialogue:
    Kim(to Ron): You're weird.
    Ron(embarrassed) Kim.
    Kim: Shhh. I like weird.

    Most Memorable Winx Club Dialogue:
Dark Bloom: Why don't you fight?! Or is it because I'm more powerful than the five of you combined?!

Flora(furious at the Trix for hurting Rose): SHE WAS MY SISTER!!!!!

I just received the first volumes of the following animes in the mail for review. Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok, Shadow Skill TV, and Giglamesh; they all look pretty good and I hope they are because I have to watch them regardless of the quality.

No new releases for me this week. But, for X-mas, I asked for Smallville S.2 S.3 & S.4, Adventures of Pete and Pete S.1 & S.2, Simpsons S.2, Moville Mysteries V.1. So, no new releases, but their new to me.

I just picked up Serenity this week but I haven't had much time to look at it yet. I still can't believe the cover art to it.

I love that they put such terrible cover art on it, and still insisted on making it all shiny-foily.

Bought Serenity and Clone Wars V2 arrived on Monday. That's all for me this year, sans whatever DVDs I get for Christmas (if any...Lord I hope I get a few).

Haven't watched Clone Wars yet, but glanced the Serenity special features. Slim pickings..hopefully the commentary will make up for the lack of...almost everything. Still the "Re-Lighting" featurette was nice, even if the credits are completely interlaced (at least on a PC monitor...impossible to read).

A little note: I got the Marge Head for Season 7. Well, that's what I've heard (I'm TECHNICALLY getting these on the 24th, and that's the last night of the week).
