Nice surprise from Warner Brothers DVD

    Like This Thread!
I got my Father Ted DVD in the mail today, which is put out by Warner Brothers. I was expecting a crapper...uh, I mean, snapper case, and I found it was in a KEEP CASE! Oh, GLORIOUS DAY! Has Warner done away with the snappers? Could there be light at the end of that there tunnel? Ma? Is that you?

I really hope this is a sign that they are done with them, and not just using them for their BBC releases.

I heard they were beginning this, isn't it under a new DVD series name? Inifilm or something?

Infinifilm is New Line's new line of DVDs that will allow viewers more ease to jump between the movie and the pretenant bonus features while watching the movie. The first official title is still due out, but Little Nicky is actually the first Infinifilm title to be released, tho it is not advertised as such. It is an easter egg on the DVD (see DVDfile.com for more details, if interested).

So Warner is only doing this for certain titles? Well, seeing that I plan on buying many of their BBC releases, this is still good news, but still disappointing that most of their main releases will still have the crapper cases.

Yes, I got New Line's Inifilm mixed up with WB. Thirteen Days is the first official Inifilm I believe.

As for Warner, I have no idea. I have not heard of Father Ted but I see its a TV series...Are they the only ones getting this treatment? I see movies like Proof Of Life are still getting the crap. If they are changing over to the keep cases I wish they would have done it with a big film such as JFK or Superman.

A quick search on Google turned up nothing, except that Warner hasn't used snap cases in Australia for over a year.

I still have yet to see an explanation of what a "snapper" case is verse a "keeper" case - every DVD case I've ever seen snaps shut, so the names justa ren't enough to explain it.

"With my feet upon the ground, I lose myself between the sounds
And open wide to suck it in, I feel it move across my skin.
I'm reaching up and reaching out, I'm reaching for the random, or what ever will bewilder me.
And following our will and wind we may just go where no one's been.
We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no one's been.
    Spiral out. Keep going"

If you look on the WB cases, they have a little tab that goes over the front and snaps it shut. The other ones click on the side. WB is the only company that uses Snapper case. Why? Becuase they own majority stock in the company that makes them.

    The major difference

The big difference between the two cases, the keep case is more like the plastic clamshell that Disney movies come in, but more sturdy. There is an insert which slides into it with the cover art and all, which is protected by a plastic cover. The snapper cases are just a piece of card board snapped on to a piece of plastic with no protection of the cover art. So if you rip the cover or damage the case in anyway, there is no place you can get a replacement, and you're just screwed.

Thanks for the explanation! Now I know which is which! But, presonally, I don't have a problem with either version. I've never had any problems with the snapper cases in the past, so I don't mind them.

The big problem people are having with them now is that Warner is putting those flaggin security stickers on every side of the DVD, so when you peel them off, it may tear the card board. It has never happened to me, but I have heard about it happening to others.

Another thing I don't like about them, there is no room for any kind of collectible booklet. Somebody mentioned Superman earlier. That movie definitely deserved a better treatment on DVD, in terms of packaging. A nice collectible booklet would have been awesome, but where can you put in in a snapper case?

The only problem I have with some of them is that the part that snaps shut stops working and it just kinda hangs open. It's rather annoying.

How could you not have a problem with them? They're rathar difficult to stack at time, they're clunky, and all around cheap! I realy hope WB is going to make the transition, but all their July releases are being advertised with the snapper case. I find the keep cases just so much better, or even the special packaging for DVDs like X-MEN or Fight Club.
