September 20th, 2005 -- what are you getting this week?

    Like This Thread!
This being Toon Zone and all, I'll start off by listing some of this week's animated stuff -- there are volumes of Batman, Justice League Unlimited, and Teen Titans, along with another Ren and Stimpy box.

The two largest theatrical releases this week are The Adventures of Shark Boy & Lava Girl in 3-D and The Longest Yard, both available in separate widescreen and full-frame DVDs. There are also a slew of limited releases coming to DVD -- After Midnight, Born Into Brothels, Brothers, Inside Deep Throat, It’s All Gone, Pete Tong, Mind Hunters, See Arnold Run, Shackles, and Turtles Can Fly.

Criterion is adding several films to their esteemed collection -- An Angel at my Table, Masculin Feminin, and Naked. A number of DVDs are being re-released this week, too: Don't Be a Menace to South Central..., From the Earth to the Moon (although the re-release sounds like a step back), Mallrats, The Outsiders, Scary Movie 3.5, and a three-pack of Wallace and Gromit adventures. Other catalog titles making their way to DVD include an extended version of Major Dundee, Martin and Orloff, and Over the Edge.

There are a ton of genre movies coming out too, including Dolls, From a Whisper to a Scream, The House Where Evil Dwells, Lady in White, Night Visitor, and double features of Die, Monster, Die / The Dunwich Horror, Panic In Year Zero / The Last Man on Earth, Tales of Terror / Twice Told Tales, Voodoo Island / The Four Skulls of Jonathan Drake, and War Gods of the Deep / At Earth’s Core.

Several TV series are making their debut on DVD this week -- the redux of Battlestar Galactica, Desperate Housewives, and Ned and Stacey. The second seasons of Crime Story, The Pretender, and Taboo are also coming out, along with the first batch of episodes from Andromeda's fifth season.

For a list of some of the best prices as well as the latest price drops for existing titles, check Mike Frezon's weekly thread on the Home Theater Forum and SalesCircular.com. A relatively comprehensive list of this week's releases can be found at DVD Talk and ComingSoon.net.

So -- what are you getting this week? I might pick up Mallrats.

Well, I noticed that the first disc of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - the Second Gig (that's a mouthfull) is getting released today, but since I still have 4 volumes of season 1 left to buy I'll probably skip it. Plus I found some great deals on used dvds, so I spent my weekly (actually monthly) budget on that. I couldn't believe I found the complete box set of Berserk for $18, Band of Brothers for $10, Sandford and Son seasons 2 and 4 for $8 each, Dilbert the complete series for $8, Married with Children season 2 $8, All in the Family season 1 $8... the deals just won't quit! And I'm broke now!
Saturday is the best day of the week. No demands at all! Perfect freedom! The whole day stretches before us with unlimited opportunity! And what better way to appreciate that opportunity than by squandering it watching cartoons all day! --- Calvin

I never picked up the original Wallace & Gromit DVD, so I'll be getting this one. Maybe Mallrats X, as well.

First time posting on one of these threads. I'll have to intro my collection on the appropriate thread. Anyhoo...

Fortunately for my collection ambitious my brother's birthday is this week so I'll be having to liquidate one of my paychecks for some ready cash. What can I say, my needs are few. But that's neither here nor there.

I'm saying all that to say this: what I'm aiming for this week is Rocky & Bullwinkle Season 3. That's not saying I'll buy it, though. I'll check the Arkansas-side Wal-Mart for it (a mile from where I live). If I don't find it there I'll hit up the one on the Texas side (a mile from here, and just across the street from my music lessons) on Thursday. If I don't find it there either, I'll head out to Best Buy and pick up Volumes 2 of The A-Team and the Looney Tunes Golden Collection.

In the meantime I hear Fred's cut some sweet deal on 50-cent DVDs; I'll stop by there and see what I can find. Fortunately, it's next door to the bank.
If you don't like your options, make another option.

Once again, I went to the mall yesterday. Here's what I picked up this time:

The Flintstones: Complete Season 1--it was their last one!
Disney's Bambi--no one's too old for this classic!
    Best Kim Possible Dialogue:
    Kim(to Ron): You're weird.
    Ron(embarrassed) Kim.
    Kim: Shhh. I like weird.

    Most Memorable Winx Club Dialogue:
Dark Bloom: Why don't you fight?! Or is it because I'm more powerful than the five of you combined?!

Flora(furious at the Trix for hurting Rose): SHE WAS MY SISTER!!!!!

A good week for me! I picked up Mallrats: The 10th Anniversary Extended Edition and Clone High: The Complete First Season. I'm really disappointed that Mallrats is a flipper DVD. I don't mind flippers that much but in this case I wish they would've made it a simple 2-disc set.

I went back to the mall today and picked up:

Dukes of Hazzard: Season 1--their last one!

That's about it for now. Here's what I still must buy before they're all gone:

    Happy Days: Season 1
Knight Rider: Season 1--only one copy left!!!!
The Critic: The Complete Series--only one copy left!!!!
    Partridge Family: Season 1
Dukes of Hazzard: Season 2--only one copy left!!!!

As they used to say on Pokemon: I GOTTA buy 'em all!!!!!
