    Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon DVD

    Like This Thread!
I'm curious, who plans to buy the movie on DVD? It hit shelves today (since it is technically Tuesday) and I definatly plan to pick it up along with the new Radiohead CD. What are your future DVD purchases?

    My future DVD purchases

I might get this one, but there are a couple expensive sets coming out this month, Robotech and Black Adder, both of which I will get. V and Battle of the Planets are also must buys.

I've heard that befor e- what is Battle of the Planets. Also, Shadow Raiders is hitting DVD I think in July. Is it moe, or are they releasing EVERY show on DVD aside from Batman/Superman & Beyond?

As for CTHD, The store I plan to buy it from has it amazingly cheap so it won't put that huge of dent in my pocket thankfully. It was a must buy once I saw it in theatres.

    Battle of the Planets

Are you familar with Gatchaman or G-Force? These characters have shown up in those incarnations as well. They are from an anime series from the 70's that is definately kiddie fare compared to todays anime (but for those of you who don't like the kiddie fare of Battle of the Planets but like more mature action, check out the Gatchaman DVD set due out before the end of the year).

I also have several of the comic books, a fact of which I am very proud, as I had these since I was like 7 and they are all still in great shape.

I'm definitely getting the Crouching Tiger DVD. In fact, I preordered it a while back, and it was already shipped to me - I should have it arriving at my door tomorrow (Tuesday).

Great movie. I plan to watch botht eh dubbed and sbtitled version. I find the subtitles distracting sometimes. I do't mind them too much. When I watched LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL, it took me awhile to get used to it, same with CTHD, but eventually it's not too bad, but still -- annoying! I can't wait to add this bad boy to my collection, and add Castaway next week - 2 disc set!

    AAAHHHHHGGGGGHHHHHH

I spent WAY too much money on DVDs today! So, no I did not get CTHD today, sorry, but I had to control myself!

I got the set of DVDs for Starblazers (four DVDs) and That Thing You Do and The Thing With Two Heads! YES!

If CTHD has both versians I'd love to rent/buy it on DVD! I don't dislike either or. I prefer dubbed, but I don't like it when they try to match mouth movements exactly. It takes something away, and I don't think it's necessary. Languages and cultures are extremely different. Deal with it! Don't try and blend them, let em stand alone! We can deal. Just let me watch my movie huh?

I got the DVD this morning. It has the original language track with english subtitles (just as it was in the theaters) as well as an english dub version, and a french track.

It's a nice disc although I wish they supped it up and made it a special edition. Now I have to worry if they're gonna re-release it later as SPECIAL.

They better not! Its already been "upped" once to get this version - they better not do it a second time!

Man, I thought this DVD had bonus features on it. This movie is way too big to not come out with a special edition.

Is the VHS for sale today, or just rental? I have learned a common trend from working in a video store that a stripped down DVD will be released the same time as a rental VHS, but when the VHS goes on sale six months or so later, they release the special edition DVD. They might do that with CTHD.

It does!! The "stripped down" version came out like a month or two after the movie was in theaters here in the US. The version that came out this week has special features - it has a commentary track by Ang Lee and James Schamus, a making of special, a "conversation with Michelle Yeoh Featurette", a photo montage, filmographies, animate menus, productions notes, and a link to the web site.

Yeah! The receipt from the store where i purchased it labeeld it as "Croughing Tiger...: SE" which made me happy. Although now we have to worry about the dreaded ULTIMATE EDITION taking over DVD land.

How about blue laser DVDs? Aren't those supposed to actually supposed to be able to hold more information? Higher capacity DVDs in the future will mean even bigger special editions of titles we are buying today. There will be no end to this nightmare.

Then in 25 years or less, when DVD is gone and the Next Big Format comes around, there will be even more money to spend! Of course, the only format I would want to see replace DVD is actual hologram programs! Go inside the movie itself! YES!

Could you imagine? A three dimensional movie that you can "go" into, or at least have projected before you. That's be awesome. But for now, I'm happy with my 44 DVDs (45 as of next week), stereo surround sound, and my awesome TV.

There never was another version of CTHD released in the US. IGN did a review of one but in reality it was just pretty much a bootleg.

The thing with this movie is that no one expected it to be a such a huge hit, its doubtful theres much material like behind the scenes etc... on this movie and any interviews they did are going to be for the most part in Chinese, watching the movie in Chinese is one thing but sitting through a bunch of subtitled interviews...I don't think so!

The English dub is actually pretty good, one of the best I've ever seen.

Actually, the CTHD DVD is really good...more loaded than advetised, or so it seems.

I was pretty suprised. It's rare the foreign films like this are given such a good disc. Even mainstream hits like TRAFFIC was suprisingly bare compared to CTHD, although I bet USAFilms will have a special 'Academy Awards" edition or something.
