Are European DVD's compatible in N.A.?

    Like This Thread!
Basically, I want to know if I order a DVD package that is only sold in the U.K., can I play it on a normal DVD player here in Canada?

I know that you can't watch VHS PAL videos here (why, don't ask me!), but is it different for DVD's? Please let me know!

the answer is no. UK DVD's are Region 2

Your can play them if ...

1- You bought a multiregion player
2- You get your player modified via a chip
3- Your player is able to change regions by you hacking it with special sequences of commands on the remote.

Search on web to see if your player is hackable.

Most of us brits have multiregion players so we can import US stuff and watch homegrown material - best of both worlds.

No. Unfortunately, that's one of the "bugs" they worked out of it before it was available to consumers.

No it's region 1 only. Another sugestion you can try, get a player that is NTSC(NA standard)/PAL capable. The only company I know of that makes this type is Apex, but I'm sure there are others. Your other option is to get a a PAL to NTSC converter I did a google search and came up with these results for one http://www.google.com/search?q=PAL+t...n&start=0&sa=N hope this helps you out.
Yup. It's a signature. Go away if you're expecting something interesting here.

Thanks guys! I probably won't be buying a DVD player (I only have one in my computer), but I know this info will help me if I ever do! The truth is, Ally McBeal is released in DVD season sets overseas, and I'd love to get them, but...

If you have a DVD player in your computer, I know that there are software cracks that you can download which can make your player Region Free.
