Drop Dead Fred - region 2 widescreen anamorphic
Those of you who avoided buying the region 1 DVD of Drop Dead Fred that was released last year because you didn't like the open matte presentation should be aware that there is now a region 2 widescreen anamorphic DVD of the film being offered at all the major online stores that sell region 2 DVDs.
Those who aren't familar with the movie may be in for a real treat, or a major disappointment, depending upon your point of view. This is one of the most polarizing movies ever. All the major movie critics hated. A lot of the general public hated it. At the same time, there is a sizable cult following of people, including myself, who love it. Most people either love it or hate it - there are very few in the middle.
On the surface, the movie is a comedy. And as such, it's a great one. But at a deeper level, this is a very serious psychological drama.
Phoebe Cates gives the performance of a lifetime. Her acting here is amazing.
I love this movie. You may love it, or hate it, depending upon your tastes.
The movie is rated PG-13 for cartoon type violence, mild cursing, mild adult type situations, and a brief, comedic, non-sexual view of a man's naked behind.

Not only is the region 1 disc full-frame, but it's not even a good full-frame transfer.
One screenshot I took:

Some of the dialogue sounds muffled to me too, like in this example. I'm a fan of the movie and was disappointed with how poorly it was treated in R1. Maybe now that Lions Gate has taken over Artisan, a better version will be issued one day.
