    Terminator 2 Question

    Like This Thread!
I already have Terminator 2: Ultimate Edition (the double sided one that's regarded as one of the best DVDs ever), but I'm contemplating buying the T2: Extreme DVD. My question is, does Extreme contain most of the stuff that Ultimate has, like domestic and foreign theatrical trailers, scripts, and behind-the-scenes stuff? I don't really feel like double dipping (i.e. keeping Ultimate AND buying Extreme). And is the video quality on Extreme really THAT much more noticeable on a 25 inch TV? Any help would be appreciated.

I've been wondering what T2 dvd to buy for awhile too. It's one of the big holes in my Ahnuld collection. So if anyone can offer opinions on which is the most worthwhile, I'd appreciate it too.

SpeedyBoris - if you have a 25" tv, I'd say there's not gonna be alot of difference. I have a 25" tv, and I don't usually notice the difference between two good dvds, like supberbits. I have a friend with a 52" widescreen HDTV though, and it makes a big difference on his... since I plan on buying a similar tv (someday) I like to try and get the best quality dvd's I can because I know it'll make a difference someday. Of course, by the time I get a tv like that, HD-DVDs might be the standard and I'll be SOL anway...

Thanks for the comparisons, Class316. So basically, the only advantage to Extreme would be the video quality. And the new extras on Extreme don't really interest me, so I guess I'll stick with Ultimate.

If you have DVD-rom or a high-deffinition TV, buy the Extreme edition. If not, don't bother.

Well, the Extreme Edition does have a commentary track if you're into that sort of thing, which is about the only noticable hole in the Ultimate Edition's special features selection. I haven't heard whether it's any good or not, though.

I actually have both and I'll give you my rundown of each.

T2 Ultimate- All Three cuts of the film, DTS ES (first disc to have that), Dolby Digital EX, Inferior picture quality (very grainy, soft, and edge-enhancement up the yin-yang), same Criteron-esque audio commentary as the laserdisc, More or less the same special features from the laserdisc but updated to include the films video transfers as well as new trailers and documentaries.

T2 Extreme- Amazing transfer (from a hi-def interpositive), no DTS, better (IMHO) Dolby, Jim Cameron's first ever scene specific audio commentary, Extreme Viewing mode (almost makes up for the lack of the features on Disc 2), A new documentary about visual effects, montage of production material (much of which didn't make it onto the previous dvd), WMA version of theatrical cut (haven't gotten it to work yet).

    My suggestion: buy both!

There's a commentary track on Ultimate (I've listened to it), unless you're referring to the scene-specific commentary that Lord Dalek mentioned.

Well... I suppose I could always give Ultimate to my sister if I were to buy Extreme. But it'd be a shame to lose those Japanese trailers. And what's up with only being able to watch the extended edition on Extreme? (I mean you CAN watch the original, but it's only available through a menu trick)

Do what I do, switch the discs around so that Extreme edition is Disc1 and ultimate is disc 2.

I've kinda been waiting on this. And since they released the Extreme Edition, it's on my "back-burner list". I wasn't a huge fan of the series anyway.
