  1. Watching Familiar Movies in Foreign Languages

    How often do you listen to a domestic movie in a language other than your own? This may seem odd, but I think it's actually pretty fun to do. I used to do this when I took French, and I've been doing it again since I started taking Japanese.

    The thing I love most is being able to pick out parts of the dialogue myself. I only have a couple American movies with Japanese tracks, but every time I watch one after learning new vocabulary, it gets more enjoyable. Subtitles hardly ever match ...

    Learning Japanese from watching anime is pretty hard, considering how characters use odd dialects (Goku from Dragonball as a little bit of what Japan considers the 'hick' dialect), improper gender (it's not uncommon for tough anime girls to use the male 'boku' instead of neutral 'watashi' for the pronoun I, when in real life it's usually not so), or even the wrong form (Japanese has degrees of politeness and using the wrong one is insulting at times).
