Limbaugh Says He's Nearly Deaf
(AP) - Radio commentator Rush Limbaugh surprised his listeners with the revelation that he has gone almost completely deaf over the past few months. Limbaugh, whose nationally syndicated talk show reaches some 20 million people on nearly 600 stations, said Monday that he wants to continue his show despite his impaired hearing.
anyone for 'devine retribution' theories?:D

And Avery got his eye shot out after starting to work in animation at Universal. Ya think God was trying to tell him not to go to Warners?

What's divine about someone's pain and suffering?
I might not agree with certain politicians or talk show hosts, but I don't wish them ill and wouldn't attribute any misfortune they might have to "divine" retribution just because of their point of view.
In light of all the recent pain and suffering America has undergone, I think that comment is in very bad taste.

Nah. God was saying Universal was a lousy studio to work for.
The last time I saw Limbaugh he looked like he had aged about thirty years. I wondered at the time if he had dropped the weight too fast - I had a stepgrandfather who did that and died. I wish him well. If anything were to happen to him, a talented conservative might step into his place, and we don't need that. ;)

From Tuesday's Washington Post story on Limbaugh's deafness quoting a definite non-dittohead:
Al Franken has been linked to Limbaugh since the comedian's 1996 satirical book and CD, "Rush Limbaugh Is a Big Fat Idiot." Yesterday, Franken said: "If I had my druthers, his show wouldn't be on the air and it wouldn't be as popular as it is. But no one wishes anything like this on him."
Rapid weght changes usually are toughest on the heart -- better to stay at one weight, even if it's too heavy, than to bounce up and down rapidly. That's what supposedly killed comedian John Candy.
As far as his illness, the only speculation I've seen is from Newsday, where a doctor said you can contract arthritis in the auditory canal which causes the body to try and reject the bones and soft tissue in there, which can cause loss of hearing.

I believe it falls under the "everything happens for a reason" mantra. Plus, Job's suffering was a divine test (and a perverse fit of gambling between God and Satan).

I recall reading Avery's blindness attributed to "horseplay at Lantz [Studios]"...which is very vague. Maybe it's morbid to be curious, but how the devil did it happen? And is it possible Tex's odd style was a result of impaired depth perception?
For the record, Curly Howard shot himself accidentally in one leg with a shotgun in his youth and was plagued with pain all his life. What was God was trying to tell the most popular Stooge, I wonder? ;)
As a conservative with perpetual ear problems myself, I sympathize with Limbaugh and hope it all works out. I've never professed to understand God's will...but if Rush, like St. Paul, is to be afflicted with a "thorn in the flesh", then He has some reason, I'm sure. But I'm sure it isn't a punishment...

On Limbaugh, it's appalling to cite divine judgement, just as Jerry Falwell erred hideously with his earlier pronouncement. God is merciful and God is just, but there is unfortunate suffering in the world.
Tex was blinded by a fellow animator. They had for ages been shooting wads of paper at each other in the animation department. One quasi-animator decided to do one better and was about to fire a paper clip at Tex. A well-meaning co-worker said "LOOK OUT TEX!!!" which unfortunately caused Avery to turn directly towards the incoming paper-clip-missile... He was blinded instantly... Tex stated years later that the responsible individual (I can't think of his name right now) wasn't right mentally, owing to actually having been kicked in the head by a horse.

To quote Tex from Adamson's book:
"While I was at Lantz's, in the early thirties, an incident occurred that made me feel the animation business owed me a living. We were all a group of crazy gagsters that wuold attempt anything for a laugh, and one routine was the rubber band and paper spitball shot at the back of the head. You'd pop a guy, hit him, and he'd yell, "Bull's-eye!" We had one goof there that had actually been kicked in the head by a horse! (Had a huge scar across his forehead.) He was really a bit off. He went a step further and used a wire paper clip. One of the boys yelled, "Look out, Tex!" and I turned and caught the clip in my left eye."
Somewhere in the book I remember it's said that this impairment could have actually helped him perceive the 2D cartoons in a way that benefitted his style.

You rang? But seriously, he's more talented @ what he does than I am; I know I couldn't do what he does, tho I would try given the chance. I too don't try to pretend to understand God. I don't think it's possible; anyone who could completely understand God would have to be God. That said, anyone is free to look in the Scriptures, look @ things going on in the world, try to draw conclusions; it's been going on for millennia. Anyway, I too wish Dr. Limbaugh well, tho for different reasons, obviously. And look @ it this way: Limbaugh is now officially disabled, which places him in a protected class. Which makes liberals' jobs that much harder.

I am disabled, although not deaf, so I wish Mr. Limbaugh well and hope the prognosis is more dire than the final reality turns out to be. As to "divine retribution", I suspect the Creator of All is no doubt tired of being assigned credit and/or blame for everything under the sun (including, incidentally, the events of 9/11) and I hope that people think twice before they say such things in future. It is still a free country and as such, Mr. Limbaugh and happyheathen both have the right to express opinions. Further Deponent Saith Not.

Gee, that's a pity to hear what happened to ole' Limbuagh. Even though I'm not really part of any political party I wish him better fortune...dunno why some political opponets can't have a little decency and say the same, different views or not.
....geez! All these animators were really disabled?! No offense to them, but do you think this would really explain why the toons we see in that time period were that zany? If so, it'd explain a lot...
