Hi, folks!

We just finished a short movie, good ol' 2d traditional animation, and I decided to share some pics with you.

All of the more than 80 backgrounds of this 10min short were done solely by André Leão assisted by Paulo Visgueiro. The animation itself is quite something, in these days when huge 2d studios stumble...

The project had the cooperation of many children of a public school of Rio de Janeiro and was done with cultural purposes only.

Direction was done by Humberto Avelar, who also did the character concepts and storyboard. It's very nice to have a director who is also an animator! He really knows what he is talking about!

Story is about a brazilian legend, the Curupira, a creature who protects the forest (guess he would be very, very busy in reality...).

Here is a concept image. If you like it, i can post many more, as there are plenty of them! In the movie, he is not like that.

WOW! Thanks for sharing--these are great!

What's that box towards the bottom of the movie poster...is that the Portugese version of the Ratings System?

Nice, but what's the movie about?

Is the creature in the fil;m just a differnt spelling of Chupacabra?

This looks very nice! Do you have any plans to bring the movie into other countries?

Hi, folks!

Thank you all for the compliments! I read all the messages to the team and they were very glad!

Well, lostrune and Delthayre are right. We talk portuguese here. A very different portuguese from the one of Portugal, but yet... well, the film just has a very small voice over (like 2 or 3 lines) and no speeches. Just action!

Martianinvader, that box is just a logo... (Rio stands for Rio de Janeiro, the city; Prefeitura means city hall; educação is education, as you already may have guessed; Multirio is the studio who did the film, and it belongs to Rio de Janeiro city government). In fact, we don't have a rating system like the USA. All of our products are rated for all ages "from the factory", as we just produce material for the public educational system!

Artimus Gigan, Curupira is a very, very famous indian legend in Brazil, no relations to Chupacabra. Curupira is not an evil spirit, but one who protects the forest (if it was true, he would be in serious trouble right now!). Even the origin of their names are different. Curupira, in tupi language, means curu boy and pira body, as he looks like a boy.

And we put the movie in every festival we can, but I think that is not enough... It's very difficult to distribute a short movie!

Tell me if you would like to see more. Or perhaps a concept image like this:

In the web page there are plenty of images, a step by step making of and some nice trailers too! http://www.multirio.rj.gov.br/juroquevi/ocurupira/

Thank you all for you comments!
