I've only seen one episode but this looks like a really good DVD package so I'm very tempted by it, Spidey fan that I am.

Oh, nevermind, it's an RCE disc. sigh..

I got this DVD in the mail today (no RCE on my DVD thank god, sorry to hear about that Zombies8MDingo) and I've been making my way through it.

I've watched the featureetes and they've been both informative and enjoyable. There's a lot of behind the scenes stuff on the disc, including how they make the beautiful animation and even some the test footage that Mainframe did, as well as some pre-production artwork, which actually looks a lot like it was taken from Ultimate Spider-Man.

The only dissapointment so far is there's no trailer for Spider-Man 2, but you ge one for the original (?!) and a trailer for the upcoming Spider-Man 2 videogame. There's also trailers for Sonys other DVDs as well as a humourous but short gag reel.

More to come, as I'll be reviewing it for http://marvel.toonzone.net/spideytac.

Buy it now!

I picked this DVD up today and I've had a chance to watch a handful of episodes. Wow - the quality is great! I especially love the widescreen aspect the release gives us. I am going to give the extras a spin later, but I am really enjoying this release so far. I am sorta disappointed in a lack of a Spidey 2 trailer.

Today's the day.
I am extremely upset. I have midterms, and I get out of school early, so I headed over to a store to buy it, I didn't expect them to have it because that's my kind of luck, but they did have it, I had it in my hands, ready to buy it, and then they threw me out! Apparantly, there's a student ban until 3:00, so I couldn't even be in the store. Now I can't go back until probably Monday. I can't get there after 3:00 any other day. :(

Well, I headed over to Best Buy after school and picked it up...! I've watched a couple episodes so far, and they look GREAT! I haven't watched any of the special features, yet....Also, for those of you who are wondering, the episodes are in PRODUCTION order, not the crappy MTV Air-Date order...which is good...making the show less confusing. Here's hoping for a season 2!

they switched the title from Animated Chronicles to The New Animated Series

nice surprise to see them in widescreen, never knew it was intedned to be
also glad these are in prod. order instead of screwy mtv-order.

another fine addition to my growing dvd library
next up: Dilbert and The Critic

still gotta catch up on The Simpsons, Family Guy, South Park box sets.

Only one of the Walmarts and Suncoast had them.
Of course it was cheaper at Walmart.

I pretty much was just checking the discs out. Nice DVD.

What is RCE?
Regional coding enhancment. It's something Warner and Columbia sometimes put on there region 1 DVDs to stop other regions (specifically region 2) from importing there DVDs. It's not paticullary fair in this occasion, as the series has not recieved a region 2 release. It probably will, though it will probably have a long wait, in hopes of cashing in on Spider-Man 2.

RCE isn't that much of a problem because as soon as it was introduced enterprising companies that had already been selling modified DVD players to get around region coding found a way around RCE. So I either wait for Spider-Man to be released on DVD here, will be waiting forever probably, or finally update my DVD player so I can get The Critic Boxset too.Spidey does look like a quality boxset, I haven't really gotten into the series yet but this looks good enough to the thing that does get me into it. Maybe they'll release it in the UK when the new movie comes out...

Despite all the trouble I had trying to get it yesterday, I decided that I'd go through even more just to get it today. After a long jouney alone in the city, I got it, and I'm glad I did! This is one of the best DVDs I own, just as I thought it would be. I absolutely love the widescreen format, and the quality is excellent, not to mention how beautiful the animation is on it's own. I'm enjoying the commentaries. One for each episode! Extras are great too. I could've had a little more on the actors, and some more production art, like the promotional images of Spider-Man. The original test animation was really interesting to see. It was great to learn about the process they use to create the characters. I wish they said more about the software that does the outlines. Great DVD, I really like this set. If only all animated shows could have DVDs like this. (X-men Evo... hope you're listening ;) )

You had a hard time finding this DVD? I had an easy time. My local Wal-Mart had about 10 copies and I snatched one up promptly. I'm almost done going through the disc, so maybe I'll put up a review for it. I am surprised that people are having a hard time finding this disc. I guess this is the same as the Batamn animated DVDs peoplle had problems finding.

Well, I've made my way through these discs and I must say, it is easily the best TV on DVD release I have, with a high ranking on my 75+ DVD collection.

It was great hearing about how they made Spidey move and fight better than ever before. They are perfectly honest about how they create them, and explain what precedures they use to save costs, and the pressures the show came with, as they had higher ups at Sony, Marvel and MTV all having different visions for the show. They acknowledge several different areas of what they wanted the characters to be, both visually and character-wise.

The commentaries where a highlight, as they had the producer in all of them, and guests where brought in for various episodes, most of whom where greatly entertaining. Some of them bored me, they talked too much about un-interesting aspects such as talking about the various layers of developing a city, whilst other, such as hearing Stan Lee, Brian Micheal Bendis and Neil Patrick Harris where great. From the sounds of it, they have no idea if they'll be producing a second season, but from the sounds of it, they want to, and they want it to be closer to the comics.

Let's hope they get it.

I've only listened to a few commentary tracks and watched one of the featurettes so far, but I must say this was well worth the money.

Hoping for a season 2. =)

I got the set on Thursday, and I listened to a bit of commentary for one of the episodes, and then turned on the "amazing spider-facts" for another episode. I haven't watched the entire set, but I'm looking forward to doing that - especially with the episodes in order, which is going to make a lot more sense than the order MTV showed them in.

Has anyone watched the outtakes yet? I think I'll do that tomorrow. :)

Yeah, there are only about three, but they're pretty funny.

The writing and "humor" can be a little stiff and awkward, but there has never been a better depiction of Spidey's speed and agility.

The live action film got the web-swinging right, but this style of animation is the perfect format to really see how Spidey would move. Let's hope MTV decides to make more.

I've been rewatching the episodes, and have been noticing little extra bits here and there, it seems over here Nick edits the episode. For example, the dream 2 for 1 sequenc in Mind Games part 1 is completly cut, as is Peter, Harry and MJ 'watching' that couple. The review should be on the site in a few days folks, sorry about the delay!

Comnparing the episodes I saw on YTV to the DVD - the episodes seem completely intact. Perhaps the UK airings were slightly trimmed for content or time.

Anyone have any comments on the extras? I think the extras package, overall, is pretty sweet. There are a couple things here and there - like the absence of some of the voice talent - but it's well done overall. Anyone else?

An easter egg? Sweet! I'll definitely have to check it out. I did some quick searching a few days back and found nothing - these eggs must be well hidden. I gotta admit that I find myself more and more impressed at how this is such a quality release. I look at some of the other DVDs I own, specifally the Batman ones, and I just...sit back in amazement.

TVShowsonDVD has a great review of the DVD set here (http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/sitereviews.cfm?ReleaseID=3237).
