View Full Version : The Justice League Trophy Room - Possible in Season Three?

When fans of Justice League discuss things that they feel are missing from the series -- such as Barry Allen and The Lasso of Truth -- I'm surprised that, thus far, no one has discussed the absence of the Justice League's Trophy Room, a mainstay of the comics since the beginning (and has recieved new life in Grant Morrison's JLA). As was the case with Batman's collection and Superman's alien zoo, The Watchtower seems sort of...sterile without it.

Let me explain: when BTAS was in production, the series bible omitted items from the mythos, such as the Batsignal, on the grounds that it didn't fit the series that they were trying to produce. However, while it may be hokey -- considering the paradox of an urban legend who wants the public to question his existence, yet has a giant searchlight with his emblem on it that flips on when there's trouble -- there is also a valid argument for its continued presence in the Batman mythos. Frank Miller, in one of his essays, put it best when he said, "The Batcave just isn't complete without that fifty-foot penny." Simply put, without the Batsignal, or the giant penny, or all the other weaponry with the "Bat" preface before it; it just wouldn't be Batman (even Paul Dini conceeded that Batman wasn't the same without the Batsignal in Batman: Animated). The same holds true with Superman, who recieved his Artic stronghold -- complete with alien zoo -- early in the Superman series.

That said, I ask you: do you think that the possibility exists that the Trophy Room could appear in Season Three? If its absence was due of a lack of items to put in it (which would have been the case in Season One), the League has now had two seasons to collect stuff for one (a reassembled Manhunter robot, the remains of The Heart of Darkness and/or The Philosopher's Stone, Superman's outfit from Hereafter). So, do you think it might happen and, if so, what would go in it?

(Finally, I don't want to get into the debate about the Lasso of Truth and whatnot; frankly, it's played out and, besides, it's already been addressed numerous times.)

That's an interesting idea, Karkull. I think a trophy room would be a neat way to showcase the JLA's history. Also, it would be nice to see another part of the Watchtower besides the sick bays and monitoring stations.

That's a great point Karkull and truthfully one I never really though of before. I do have to wonder why this version of the Leauge would want a trophy room, perhaps flash could host tours of the watchtower, that would be kinda funny. Personally I love Booster gold's planet Krypton restaurant, and think that would be a better way to work in the trophy room, the league getting mad at booster for being a dumpster diver and capitalizing on there notoriety. I know it's scarping the bottom of the barrel, but I think that would be a nice much needed light hearted episode for change.

I always loved the trophy rooms, from Beyond's Batcave to the Zeo Ranger's tirbute to the MMPR. While it wouldn't exactly be important, it would be nice to see a Watchtower trophy room.

Actually... huh... wouldn't that allow for Booster Gold to show up? (I really don't know, someone said he got his "powers" from just random superhero gadgets...)

I believe the trophy room showed up in an issue of Justice League Adventures...

*shuffles through issues* Ah yeah... #16

As for whether or not there should be one in Season 3--I always thought a trophy room is sorta cheesy. The bat-cave one wasn't bad, but I just never really understood the need for a giant dinosaur and penny...I guess it's more entertaining to look at than cave wall, though...

What I Want in the Trophy Room:
Remains of the Invader's technology
One of the weapons from War World
The remains of the Javelin that was damaged in "Maid of Honor"
Grodd's mind control devices
Superman's "Hereafter" gear
An old Lantern suit coughcoughHalJordanstylecoughcough
Those crowns the team recieved in "Paradise Lost"
The "A Better World" costumes
Dr. Destiny's dream machine

I think it's a great idea.

Howdy,

The trophy room showed up earlier in Justice League Adventures in #13 ("Local Hero"), written by our very own Dan Slott and drawn by our very own Min S. Ku. One of the real high-water marks of the series, IMO, and an issue that would make a totally killer episode of the show.

Actually the Trophy Room kind of did appear....on Static Shock. Remeber "A League of Their Own"? Of course it was central to the plot that a piece of Brainiac get loose but the room did appear. Forgot what else though.
