So, I see they are airing 0080. That's interesting. Of course, I expect a few edits and such...but it's a pretty short mini-series, so it won't be on for long and taking up timeslots.

As for the show itself? For those expecting goodies of mecha action like 08th MS Team or A LOT of mecha action like MSG, they will be disappointed. It's kind of slow, and there are very, VERY few mecha battles in the series, and most of them are short. The first 2 episodes aren't exactly the gritty atmosphere you'd expect from Gundam. It's pretty...upbeat.

The good? The last half takes an 180 degree turn and smacks you upside the head. It's got an emotional whopper of a finale and the dialogue and characters are better written than any Gundam series that has aired so far. It's got a good dub, and the animation is rather pleasant for it being made in 1989.

And also, the show is seen through the point of view of the Zeon. The Earth Federation isn't portrayed as "bad," but they are side characters--the main characters are a civilian and a Zeon rookie soldier.

Thanks for the heads up dude, I wonder how many times they'll repeat it, and even more when they'll show 0083.

Will they show 0083? Sure, the WTC tragedy shouldn't affect programming anymore by now, but the scenario IS a bit creepy: 3 years after the One Year War, Zeon terrorist extremists plan an operation to hijack a colony and slam it onto Earth. The end to this OAV series doesn't help matters, either.

Zeta Gundam deals with the repercussions of 0083. It's about (and I'll still be vague with these spoilers, so if you want to just know the setup of the show, you may read):

The Earth Federation, in attempt to weed out and "wipe out" Zeon terrorist groups, form an organization called "The Titans." Unfortunately, the Titans are starting to abuse their power and are using the pretext of their goal (wiping out Zeon terrorist groups) to flex their muscles, such as pumping deadly gas into a colony largely made up of civilians. News of this event is hushed up and never reaches the media, or is deliberately covered up. However, the news spreads by word of mouth and reaches other spacenoids (people living in colonies). A rebellion starts, and a new group, formed of various people (Char Aznable AND Amuro Ray, of all people...working on the SAME TEAM) decide to fight back against the Titans. The series follows the exploits of the rebel group. This time, the Earth Federation are the bad guys, and the rebels the good guys. A highly political Gundam series, and not a very happy one at that. A creepy scenario considering today's news.

I'm not sure if this would go over well with the network, or some audiences. It's pretty unintentionally offensive. Even though it was made in 1985 and the creators had no idea of predicting the future, it could be misconstrued as a recently developed argument. Of course, any intelligent person can see the rather dated animation gives it away...
