It's kind of buried in the list of nominees, but Paul Dini was nominated for an Annie in the best writing for a television series for "Comfort and Joy."

Awright, I'm happy for the nom, and I liked "Comfort & Joy," but I also think there were better eps (like "A Better World") that could have gotten the nod.

Well, I think that the name "Dini" is usually a big reason for a nomination, but I loved Comfort and Joy. It really made my season bright this year, and I'm greatful for that. Nothing better than a great cartoon to make all your problems vanish!

I probably disliked "Comfort and Joy" more than any other ep this season. Hard to believe out of all the JL eps that particular one warrants an award nomination. Maybe some people really dug the whole Christmas theme. But it was a snoozer to me.

Excellent, Dini definitely deserves it. I think C & J was one of Season 2's better eps!

I also have to add -- since there's no place else for me to say this out loud -- Teen Titans got robbed. Only two nominations, one for music in "Divide and Conquer" and one for storyboarding in "Switched."

Whee-whoot, go Dini. Nice to see the Justice League got a nomination, even if it is for Comfort and Joy. Not that it's bad, but there are better episodes out there...

Pity for the Titans, though... eh. Better luck next year, I suppose.

Just wondering, though, but what awards are these? I'm a bit slow...Emmies? Some other random award show?

Edit: Never mind... I really should look at thread titles more often. :o

that was a gamble of a premise for an episode, but dini
really delivered a fantastic episode. i wasn't sure if it
would work, but it did. i love that, he deserves the nom
just for pulling it off, leave it to him. another reason why
i worship his writing.

I enjoyed the episode immensely. In a show which is enjoys a more than average amount of fisticuffs, this gentle and non Bat episode was a welcome breather. Touching without being sloppy. I think I'm happy Dini got nominated for this one, it just shows you don't need to have action all the time in an action cartoon! :)

I kind of wish Dini would get nominated for a script he actually put effort into. At least they didn't nominate Toys in the Hood.

I completely agree. The episode lacked the overwhelming presence of Batman, and managed to humanize the characters in a manner that we've never seen before. It was an extremely creative and touching way to do a Christmas special, and its unique nature that probably set it above the rest in terms of the Annie nominations. While my favorite episodes this season were "Twilight" and "Wild Cards" (no, "A Better World" was a little better than mediocre... too many corny interchanges and liberties taken with the plot) and I would have liked to see them get recognized, I can see why they chose "Comfort and Joy" out of the pack.

And yeah, Teen Titans getting the shaft makes me a sad, sad, panda.

I think "Comfort and Joy" is probably the most deserving of a nod. Not because it's the best JL ep this season (I'd rank "A Better World" and "Only a Dream" well above it), but because it manages to sidestep so many of the flaws that the series so regularly has. It doesn't trip where the vast majority of JL eps do. It has its own unique flaws, but I don't find them as glaring as the standard ones.
