I'd have to say three Vic Tokai games.

Vic Tokai makes some good games, but their cover work leaves something to be desired...

Bascially most of the early Master System games had horrible boxart. It was usually one thing that looked like it was drawn with markers and they only took up a tiny portion of the front cover.
I remember the Super NES Ranma 1/2 game had really awful art on the cover, with the characters very out of proportion and not well drawn at all.

According to EGM, Capcom hosted a contest for retarded kids to draw Space Age ice cream men in front of Disney land rides. I love that magazine.
By the way, I got a COMPLETE in wrapper Atari 2600 Battlezone game today. I think you would be interested.

Counterstrike for the X-box, i almost dismissed it as bargain binm fluff till a bunch of people started asking it of the piss-yellow cover. that and a buddy informed me it was an old PC classic.
the new Spongebob cover is pretty lame too.

The first Mega Man. Mega Man looks more like a middle-age man wearing a cheap costume.
Capcom had some artist make that (in short amount of time) because they weren't sure if the game would do well. It was a bit of a sleeper hit and become popular by word of mouth.
But hey... What's makes you wanna buy a video game more than seeing a middle-aged man in a yellow jump suit holding a ray blaster in a scene the looks like TRON on crack?

Many of those are terrible. The box art for Secret Commando (European version of Rambo game) looks like a kid's drawing of some guy holding super soaker to me.
This is completely random, but I think Clash at Demonhead sounds like a totally awesome live album.

Now, the art itself is not bad, per se; the artist is obviosuly talented at drawing people. The problem is, these people have absolutely nothing to do with the game. I can assume the guy in the upper left is Barbarosa, but as for the others your guess is as good as mine.

The first that comes to mind is not so much the coverart, but the cardboard standie advertisement thingies that the game stores get. When Everquest for the PS2s were coming out and those standies were sent out, I just couldn't believe that was approved as the advertisement for it.
The artwork was very poor, and the colors were as dull and flat as they possibly could be.
I don't follow Everquest, so I don't know their history of marketing/advertising, but whoever approved them should be removed from their position. Either that, or they need to spend more than twelve dollars on their entire marketing campaign.
I believe the coverart is the same picture, but at least they used a better printing house, as the colors were not as flat as the advertisements.

I've always wondered why the European box art for the first three Mega Man games was different.

I think that old megaman 2 box is from when they were trying to compete with
metroid as being people with guns on their arms. Metroid went more toward the
realistic type thing, and megaman went more towards cartoony.
And in this case i think that was probably a good choice lol
I'd probably dislike megaman even more if it looked like that still
