Help on entering cheat codes in Batman: Rise of Sin Tzu

I'm on the right screen with Batman and Sin Tzu standing side by side, I enter the code and nothing happens, do I have to use the D Pad on the Gamecube controller or the control stick, or the C stick and do I have to be insanely fast?

You have to enter the codes on the next screen with the Bat Family standing on the gargoyle.

Yep it's just like the XBOX version which I have.
