I'm sure not everyone's going to agree with me, but how does this idea sound? Since I don't want to lose copies of any of my WB cartoons, I'm taking advatage of Wal-Mart's very cheap price for blank tapes, and copying the cartoons at SP onto them. This is so I don't have to go through 50 tapes to find a copy of a cartoon. Do you know how many hours it took me to find my edited copy of "The Lonesome Mouse"?????

a. unless you use pro-grade equipment, your copies will have less clarity than your originals.

b. label your tapes (even a number will work)

c. create a catalog of:
tape number
track number on tape
title of track

put this in a spreadsheet so you can easily sort by title, tape number.

(my original catalog was on '5280' cards - you may know them as 'IBM cards - the idea is the same)

I have done that for some cartoons, simply if an EP tape had 6 cartoons I wanted and 30 I didn't. It made more sense to copy to another tape and just re-use the other. I do that from SP to SP now that I finally figured out that you can copy from VCR to VCR, and the quality is not half-bad, it beats EP off TV by a mile...took me years to figure that out! As for the existing tapes in my collection, I do what Happyheathen does, sort of. I just get a piece of paper for each numbered tape and write the contents down in order. That way I can find a title and know exactly where on the tape it is. I'll put them on computer someday, but I just don't have that kind of time.

I do something like happyheathen, I number the tapes (each with about 34 cartoons) and list the contents and maybe the series, ring color, if it has original titles, and if it is edited in a spiral notebook (I find it's easier to access than a computer, even though it is a little sloppy). If I want to revue something, I find the correct tape, plop it into the VCR, and fast forward to it.

I generally try to segregate WB, MGM, and Paramount stuff, but when something rare comes on, I don't.

In fact, I should start re-revuing a few of the tapes, some of mine aren't logged yet, even though I usually can remember when I have already taped something, it will be easier after June Bugs too, I'll only have to worry about 11 Bugs Bunnys after that.

Hey Thad, that's exactly what I do. I record the blocks of cartoons off CN (usually in SP) and then I copy all the cartoons I need in SP on another tape.

I have found this is quite handy. It saves having loads of duplicate cartoons and millions video tapes to go through. Plus, I can edit out all the Shirley Temple and Anne Murray commercials :p

Also, I make sure to break off the little tab on the video and put on a label (so I don't stupidly record over it!!).

The one with Col. Shuffle in blackface IS "Mississippi Hare". However, I don't consider it one. I don't own "Mississippi", but I should get it soon...

Sorry, Peter! I don't sell the cartoons for money. I do them for trades, and speaking of which, I'm working out a few right now...
