Star Wars Avatar Contest

OK, there's been some demand for a new avatar contest and Funny Quotes are still at least a week away, so we're going to have another contest. This contest's theme is "Star Wars."

Find, make or create your own Star Wars-themed avatar and put it up. Doesn't have to be connected to your username or anything like that -- just something from the movies, novels, games, etc.

Then to participate in the contest come to this thread and put up a note. If the avatar is obscure, tell us a little about it.

Next Friday (the 12th) we'll lock the thread; contest is over. At that point anyone on the boards (participant or not) will get to vote on the avatars you liked the best. To do this, send an email here (tzmovieclub@yahoo.com) listing the posters in this thread who you think have the three best avatars:

* Give the best avatar 3 votes.
* Give the second best avatar 2 votes.
* Give the third best avatar 1 vote.

Voting closes on the night of Sunday, Oct. 14.

I will then tally up the ballots and announce the winners and the honorable mentions. NOTE: I will be participating, but since I'm the official score-keeper, I'm going to rule myself ineligible. So don't bother voting for my avatar, folks, it'll just be a wasted vote.

For this to work, you have to leave your avatar UP and UNCHANGED for the week.

If you have any questions, you can post them to this thread also.

Remember, this contest is entirely voluntary.

First, I'm a sucker for old British actors and think it's a hoot that the Empire is run by washed-up refugees from Hammer Studios. (I love Eddie Izzard's re-enactment of "Star Wars": "It's the Rebels, sir. They're here.")

Second, he's the closest I can find to a Maxie Zeus-style megalomaniac, raining death and destruction down from the heavens.

Is it Jox the rabbit guy from the Marvel comics? Wasn't he in the Magnificent Seven style story they ran just after the adaptation of Star Wars finished? I seem to remember he was also in the story where Valance the Hunter (sooooooooooo much cooler than boba Fett...) debuted. Am I right? I have to confess to being a little unsure of the name, though...

Here I am... I knew from the start of the contest I had to go with Grand Admiral Thrawn.

For those that don't know him, shame on you! He's the main character from the Timothy Zahn Star Wars books, which are amazing. In fact, they're arguably better than the movies! Thrawn, one of the few non-humans to ever gain prominence under the Emperor, took over the remnants of the Empire after the destruction of the second Death Star. He's an absolutely brilliant strategist, cunning and devious but not cruel like Darth Vader was. His techniques command awe and respect, if not dread among his adversaries.

The kicker is that he draws inspiration for his military strategies from the art of the culture he's fighting. By studying the underlying themes and techniques, he gains insight into the culture's way of thinking, and formulates ways to exploit their weaknesses.

Not the best pic of him, I'm afraid, but there was no way I could pass him up.

Kept trying to get a Boba Fett one up, but no luck.... Ok, so here's a Wokling.... Everyone seems to hate Ewoks because they're cute and furry, etc. Yet did they not prepare the male Rebels for a feast? Make Leia a dress and perhaps peek inside the hut while she put it on? Anyway, look at this cute thing and recall the stormtrooper helmets in the Endor village at the end of SW:ROTJ.... It may well have enjoyed mashed remains of stormtroopers, blinked its eyes in a cute way, and squeaked happily... Luke then picks it up, pats it on the back until it burps, then he and Lando adopt it....

Alright, here's my last minute entry. It's a scene of Luke and Darth Vader from The Empire Strikes Back. I just like it because of the cool lighting effects. A big thanks to Bird_Boy for helping me this late too.
