Well, this American hopes you all enjoy it. Although, I would like it very much if you would explain this odd-sounding holiday to me and the other ignorant Yanks.

Official definition:

Boxing Day
The day after Christmas, the Feast of St. Stephen, the first Christian martyr, is better known as Boxing Day. The term may come from the opening of church poor boxes that day; maybe from the earthenware boxes with which boy apprentices collected money at the doors of their masters' clients.

Nowadays, we often see, in certain families, gifts (boxes) given to those who provide services throughout the year.

"Boxing Day" is listed in the Canada Labour Code as a holiday

Now a days it's a day for shopping, most stores are open with awesome Boxing day sales. (Malls opened at 8am, and it's the biggest money making shopping day of the year.)

 The official definition does not even hint towards why it is ignored completely in the United States, but considered a holiday in Canada and England. I wonder if television networks use the day to promote boxing. Until now, I was always under this (apparently false) impression that it had something to do with boxing. Of course, I never followed foreign holidays.

Man, how could anyone forget about Boxing Day? Happy boxing day to anyone who celebrates it. And to uh... everyone who pretends not to but celebrates it anyway.

Yes, in the olden days of yore, (not quite sure when yore was but apparently it's before I was born, which I'm quite glad about) people didn't have alot of money, just alot of mud and the occasional chicken if you were one of the uppercrust. So it became tradition to hold boxing matches and the ultimate winner would get all the Christmas presents of the people he vanquished. Quite why mud-built action figures of previous boxers and decorated chickens who were quite relieved that they were not turkeys were worth boxing for, but I'm sure they had their reasons.

In lamest terms for these days, it's an excuse for many stores to slash prices at 50% off of everything. :p

;)

It usually goes on for a week, so if you didn't get what you wanted yesterday, then you'd have a chance to get it at 50% off the next day.

Happy Boxing Day! Here's to about the lamest holiday we have these days - well, aside from Victoria Day. What the hell is that all about? :p

Then again, it's "Boxing Week" according to the stores now - there's just too much to be sold in the span of a day nowadays! :D

The Wal-Mart I went to was PACKED!! I went to EB and bought Onimusha: Warlords for the PS 2 and waited in line for like 10 minutes.

I didn't buy much today, only Onimusha and the Princess of Japan Barbie doll.

I went out with Dad to the pet store - we needed some spray millet for the birds. The parking lot was packed because the Future Shop next door was having a Boxing Day sale. We went in to take a look - it was crowded. I wanted to find the Smallville Season One DVD, but didn't see it there - so I picked up a copy of The Hulk.

You have stores in canada that sell you your future? Cool.Do you get to choose which you have, or is it pre-destined?

LOL - I would hate to be a store clerk in that sort of shop, explaining the benefits of free will vs. a pre-destined future. I think that would give me a headache...

But seriously Future Shop is an electronics shop - you can get DVDs and DVD players, stereos, computers, and other such things there. I'm glad I didn't spend too long in there earlier today as there was quite a large crowd for the sale.

Let me take this opportunity to spam for Future Shop and say that it is the most convenient, cheap, and reliable electronics store in the Great White North. :D
