In China, thousands of bears are suffering on bear bile farms. To learn more about bear bile farming and how you can help end it, click here (http://www.wspa.org.uk/bearfarms/index.html)

How exactly is this appropriate for this board?
Irrespective of its inate legitimacy, does this have anything to do with cartoons?
Making it "OT"/off topic doesn't justify it being here.
There was recently a local story where I live about a cat having acid poured on it. (it will recover) I didn't report that here or link to the news item.
You could post a million stories of pain and suffering in the world every day but once you start where do you draw the line?
There are plenty of places on the net that cover news and opinion. TTTP is primarily for cartoons or cartoon related items. I don't see how this qualifies as a legit topic at all.
And don't tell me that there are alot of cartoon "bears" and this is related to Yogi in Jellystone National Park.

That IS cruel...I'm no fanatic but I do think animals should be treated with at least some humane respect...that's awful. I mean, the bears are in pain! I'm going to keep an eye on this...

folks:
yes, way off-topic, but - why not?
before getting upset about bears in China (no, I didn't look it up - I know what nastiness is already).
look up the following topics:
1. Veal (how do they keep the meat so tender?)
2. Fur coats (how come the fur is perfect? how were the animals killed?)
3. Dog fighting (where pit bulls come from)
4. human suffering - take your pick (much of it brought to you by US foreign policy)
ain't life grand?

Not gonna let that one go by unremarked.
The US has brought all of us life, liberty, freedom and prosperity beyond imagination. No nation has a perfect spotless foreign policy and the US, I believe, over time has done much good (WWII effort, Marshall Plan, NATO, etc)
Are you suggesting that the people killed 9/11 "had it coming" because of US foreign policy?
Are you suggesting the terrorists were justified in their attacks because of US foreign policy?
If so, you're just dead wrong.
As Orwell said, you have to be an intellectual to believe that kind of nonsense.

well ALMOST all of us...
have we done good? Yep - tons
do I believe victims are responsible for the crimes against them - a. in a few cases (I've heard of some real 'Darwin Award' cases- famous last words "You don't have the balls!" spoken to someone pointing a shotgun at decedant's midsection)
b. no, obviously the 9/11 attacks were not jusifiable, and I am not going to dignify the assertions to the contrary.
actually, I believe we should have exacted blood revenge by now, but the mideast is always problematic.
But - the economic sanctions against Cuba, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India - who knows how many - are counter-productive, hurting the poorest, while the ruling elite continue their comfortable lives.
this does nothing to elevate the US in the eyes of those affected.

I believe the concept is called 'money'...
(I forgot to mention product testing - how about cutting off a rabbit's eyelids and then spraying it with oven cleaner?)

There are areas around the world (yes, even North America) where animals are also treated shabbily. I don't see the point in singling out bears in China.
