This has probably been done to death already but I'm new here and interested to know.
Anyway, mine are:
On The Waterfront
Harvey
Clerks
High Fidelity
The Royal Tenenbaums
It's really hard to choose just five, Clerks and Tenenbaums are subject to change depending on mood really.
Honourable mention to Batman: Mask Of The Phantasm. The new live action film and animated series both have alot to live up to.

1. Citizen Kane
2. Braveheart
3. Se7en
4. Gone With the Wind (tied with The Wizard of Oz)
5. Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan
Ok, I literally love tons of movies, but I would literally watch any one of these movies a million times over without being bored or turning the movie off. Heck, I have seen all of these at least 3 or 4 times each, and in some cases, such as Se7en and Citizen Kane, I've watched them probably into the double digits.
Yeah, I'm weird like that.
Also, there are honorable mentions, like The Apartment, Memento, X2, Blade, Gladiator, Fight Club, Moulin Rouge! etc etc etc....

3) Bottle Rocket
4) Spirited Away
5) Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back
*Honorable Mention: Royal Tenenbaums, Rushmore, Toy Story 2, and several others I can't think of at the moment.
This list changes frequently, but that's what it is most of the time, and When Harry Met Sally... is always #1.
My top 5 (which I recommend strongly to anyone.): The Princess Bride - one of the best movies I've ever watched. "As you wish."
SW A New Hope - Great movie. The one that started it all.Who shot first? Greedo or Han? LOL.
Indiana Jones 'The Last Crusade' - Harrison and Connery. Great actors, great movie."Indiana was the dog's name"
Toy Story 2 - Great sequel. Enjoyed it more than the first. Terminator - Great movie."Are you Sarah Conner?"

Failure
12-27-2003, 11:12 AM
1. Fight Club - it's been nearly two years since I first saw this, and I still think of it every day.
2. LOTR - I prefer FOTR & ROTK, but I'm just gonna group all 3 together.
3. The Matrix - before the sequels ruined its mystique, it was mind blowing
4. Swingers - The quintessential "guys" movie. I love this flick from the bottom of my heart.
5. Donnie Darko - perplexing ending notwithstanding, it's just a strangely compelling movie.
5. Drunken Master 2 - Sick action. Just sick. Jackie Chan at his finest.
These may not necessarily be my top 5, but they're what come to my mind first and foremost right now. And they're the movie I think about the most, so I guess that counts for something.

Wow, except for Alextoon it seems that no one thinks much of anything created before the 70s. Well, I guess I'll be the voice of senility and add my picks to the list...
Casablanca A fine work of noir with many funny moments set against the backdrop of WWII Morocco.
His Girl Friday If you enjoy blistering dialog delived at an amazing pace then this film is not to be missed.
North by Northwest Joyful romp through spies and mistaken identities with an unforgettable cat and mouse thriller amid a cornfield.
To Kill a Mockingbird Fantastic adaption of the classic tale of youth, racism, and nobility of doing the right thing even when its unpopular.
Tampopo A Japanese comedy about a noodle shop that is hysterical and appetizing.
I could also add a few others like Kurosawa's RAN, John Woo's The Killer and the musical Brigadoon, but the above are movies that I never fail to catch whenever they're on tv.
Oh, and I liked the Lord of the Rings trilogy too. :)

I know, I have trouble choosing just five too, but it makes it more fun don't you think? http://forums.toonzone.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Plus I'm influenced by High Fidelity, so it's not my fault, the movies made me do it.

What about me? I had Citizen Kane, The WIzard of Oz, and Gone With the WInd on my list. And The Apartment was on my honorable mentions...
I feel neglected. :D
Just kidding. But I agree. I see a lot of relatively new movies on everyone's lists. I would say most of my favorite movies are from the earlier days of cinema. Or at least I try to balance every new movie I see with an older movie. For every LOTR (doesn't crack my top ten, sorry :)) I go see, I also try to watch some classics.
Helps keep me balanced. Probably has some effect on my chi....
Ok, that was all bull, but it sounded cool. :D

Well, favourite classics would be
Casablanca
The Maltese Falcon
Harvey
Some Like It Hot
Arsenic and Old Lace
But I can't really include them in a list of all time top 5 since they'd dominate the list. They're in a different class than modern day films. Really top 5 isn't very fair on movie fans, but it's more fun. :)
See, even now I've forgotten On The Waterfront, which I usually put at the top, and Citizen Kane too. Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf, A Streetcar Named Desire...
Ok, lets change it. Top 5 classics, Top 5 Modern Day, Top 5 Lazy Sunday. Basically top 5 [insert criteria] movie. except 2003, which is a different thread. :)
IN ORDER
1.Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
2.Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
3.Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope
4.The Wizard of Oz
5.Alice in Wonderland
Honorable mentions: Transformers: the Movie (sorry, I'm a huge Transfan :p), Princess Mononoke, Metropolis (the anime), Spirited Away, the rest of the Star Wars movies, the X Men movies, the rest of the LotR movies, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and the Indiana Jones series...the list could go on and on and on.
