Wow, you're like the anti-girlfriend, most people I know wish they could find a girl who liked comics...and if they don't like comics they're just plain stupid.

Don't worry girl, you're not a freak :) I was into the comic stuff too at your age. Yeah! some girls at my school thought I was weird for liking video games and comic books that guys liked instead of being into fashion and make-up and all that other hoopla teenage girls go through

I bet your going to find a nice young man who is even more of a bat freak then you are ...maybe even a X-Men freak :)
Your young, be proud of who you are and don't ever change for a guy. He has to like the whole package as it is. If not his loss, besides there are plenty of eligible young nice teenage guys out there for you...you just stumble on a dud that's all :D

Yeah, just give it some time. Honestly, you sound like the perfect girlfriend for a whole lot of comic fans out there - finding a girl that's into comics is a lot harder than finding a guy that's into comics. You'll find someone soon enough that will have the same interests and like you for who you are.

Yeah, finding a decent guy who likes comics is easy enough.

Finding a girl who likes Pre-Crisis and animated series DC. Now theres a challenge!

Fortunately about 4 years ago, I won that very challenge. So I'm here to say IT CAN HAPPEN!

Hang in there Kitty. ^_^

Too true. Aside from these boards, I know zero girls who like comics and superhero stuff. Most just laugh. Don't worry, it'll all work out...

I too was lucky in that regard - I met a girl that wasn't into comics at all, but at least didn't dismiss me for my collecting habits. After we were dating for a while, I started getting her to read some of my comic collection, and she soon became hooked. Now, almost 8 years later, we're still together, still very happy, and her comic collection is quickly catching up in size to my own!

Okay, so you are saying GUYS don't like comics and you do? Now, that is weird, most ppl I know like comics, but don't collect them. I would collect more comics, but them darn comic stores are always in the wrong place.:( I wouldn't give up hope kitty, like in that one Superman episode with that warrior princess "there is someone for everyone" *Lobo crashes through ceiling*.

I came from the same place as Clayface. I had a girl who really didn't see why comics were interesting (then again, she thought it was all mad scientists bent on world domination), but at least put up with me. Unfortunately, she broke up with me before I could get her into comics. But there are so few girls around here who are my age (15) and like comics. At least, I haven't met any. And let's not go into finding a girl who watches cartoons, much less BTAS, STAS, TNBA, or BB!

As a guy, I don't get all that much flak about liking comics (I put up a good arguement if someone dares to challenge me).

*sigh* The nigh-impossible love life of a geek.

Oh my yes, there seems to be more male die-hard comic fans than female ones. So the odds are certainly in your favor!

Now you just need to get out there and meet them. Are their any comic clubs around where you live? Or any kind of special events that would attract sci-fi fans? Heck, maybe you'll find people around the comic shop. Just some thoughts.

It CAN happen.

I met my girlfreind in a comic shop and getting into a debate with her over which was the better Batman film, the first or Returns.

She also has a deep love for DC's second stringers like the Flash and GL.

Then after dating me for awhile and watching the Superman animated series she gained an affection for Clark. (She prefers his aniamted series version because she thinks his big jaw is cute.)

That's odd.....most guys lament they can't find a girl who's as geeky as they are! :P

As Delenn of Babylon 5 says, "faith manages". As everyone says, the odds are in your favor, and if the guy thought you were a geek, he's a jerk and you're better off without him.

OMG! I have this EXACT same problem!!! NONE of the guys at my school are into comics AT ALL!!! THey are so annoying when they make fun of me because I'm a comic book freak!

Well ok... not ALL the guys... there's one guy that's into comix... he's like my best friend. Only thing is he thinks superman would beat batman in a fight which is TOTALLY untrue... but I shan't get into that here.

Course, I have an advantage. I like anime too and a lot of the guys like anime so i can talk to them about that.

But none of the guys want to go out w/ me because of 1 or 2 reasons (they're either scared of my older brother OR they think I'm ugly... some of them are scared of my cousin though...)

But, like BB said, they're all jerks. Every single one of them at *at least* one point in time. Most of them don't get out of it until long after highschool.

Then again, I'm only fourteen and I've neverhad a BF so i don't think i should be talking.

I have yet to meet a girl who likes comics and cartoons the way I do. Where were you all when I was in school?

Okay, I'm gonna go out on a limb here and reveal my age. I'm 22. The majority of you guys seem to be around 14-16, so I actually feel pretty old compared to you guys. Cool thing is, all your posts seem like you guys are mature adults. At least more mature than the one's I encounter.... anyway...

I originally got into comics and anime when I was 13. I collected up until my sophomore year in high school. That's when I discovered the wonderfull world of the opposite sex. Being consumed by impressing girls, I grew out of my comic facination.

After graduating and moving on into college, college allowed me to rediscover myself. I got back into collecting comics and grew into a refined "bat-freak." In the process, I was very socialable and had a cool circle of close friends. The girlfriend I am currently with found out about my Batman facination and said "Awwwee.. I think that's cute..." But of course Batman is not cute. He's cool. In fact, he rocks!

Funny thing too is, my roomates are older than me. I'm actually the baby of the house. And they all think it's cool that I've stayed true to collecting Batman stuff. They like to remember the times they collected comics as kids, and we always talk about it. My girlfriend is now a big fan of the animated bat shows because of me.

Here's a little advice for you kids still in high school. Don't let people judge you. If you like something, like it. Cuz high school is not reality, it is not the real world. High school is a sheild that barricades you in a world where popularity rules. When you guys graduate, most of you will realize the real world isn't about having the coolest clothes, having a million friends at your disposal, or hanging out at cool places. Life is about knowing who you are and being happy with yourselves.

BTW, is there anyone on this board that is around my age?

Nightflower
10-08-2001, 08:44 AM
Lots of people your age....I thought college age-early 20s was the majority, less people 14-16.

And Superman would wipe the floor with Batman in a fight. Now who's COOLER- that's a different story.

Come on, Batman would outsmart him. Strength's not all you need in a good fight.... I think this would probably be more appropriate as it's own thread...

Don't worry honey; you'll fine a guy. I meet my boyfriend in college and he is a huge comic book reader. If not for him I would never have found the titles I now currently read. So just be patient he will come and he will be your dark knight...I promise. :D

Hey, Kitty:

I was EXTREMELY fortunate to find a girl that, while not interested in comics all that much, is very happy to condone my habit. It helps to find people that are open-minded and who realize that everyone is interested in different things. Sounds to me like you'll find someone more to your liking pretty darn quick. Good luck!

I've never had a bf before (I'm 17), but I do know how you feel Kitty. I'm not a big comic book collector but when I do admit to people that I love Batman they imediately give me funny looks.
It can get expecially annoying when your friends giggle at you for having a crush on an animated character, but I've grown used to it.;)

Once a fan... always a fan I say. :p I've been a batfan since age 13, but it was only two years ago I started collecting bat stuff.

BTW, when you guys see people wearing Batman shirts, do you recognize them as a fan? Or is it just me? Many times I compliment them on their shirt and they seem to appreciate it. I think it's cool meeting other fans, sharing stories, and exchanging "bat" knowledge.

Calhoun07

Sure I recognize those people as fans! And I usually try to make it a point to compliment them on their shirts, when appropriate. And not just Batman shirts. I recently saw a guy wearing a cool Fantastic Four shirt that came in where I work at, and another guy who was wearing a Dr Demento shirt, and I NEVER seen one of those on a guy before!

I'm 29 and have enjoyed Bats for what seems like a LOOOOOONG time. I find it incredibly amusing to see the high schoolers running around with fashionable T-shirts with toy logos on them that I played with as a kid. I'll have to pick up one of those 'Cobra' shirts one of these days...!

Don't worry too much KP, things will get better. Guys, in general, are morons at any age. I know...at 27 I'm still a moron. The fact that you don't keep your passion for comics a secret says a lot. I know many, many guys that would consider you the ultimate girlfriend (myself included). You will find a guy that appreciates you. I promise. (guys eventually come around...we just need some time).

One of the greatest things hindering both superhero comics fans, the medium, and the genre is basically that great inferority complex.

The need to feel like they have to hide. They need to constantly apoligize for it. Or, even feeling the need to constantly justify itself.

This goes for the industry as well as fans.

No one apolgizes for knowing every character and every episode of Alley McBeal or ER , Survivor even the Simpsons.

Yes there is a long entrenched preception that supeheroes are kid stuff or that they are silly and the only way to make the outside l world ike them is to make everything like Dark Knight Returns so we can get that write up in Rolling Stone and have everybody think we're kewl for 15 minutes.

Both fans and even the industry itself tend to approach the outside world its a big bad jock waiting to take our lunch moneuy because we like 'derm ere funny-books'.

I submit that alot of times we are 85% of our problem.

Yet, the subtle truth is most of the things that we know of as being cool *all* started out with not being cool and the people who loved it refusing to apologize for it and keep doing it.

As an example: Superman should no more have to change out his blue tights for a t-shirt and jeans to be "accepted" anymore than Elvis Presley should have had to shave off his sideburns when people though they were strange (and believe it or not, his sideburns *were* an issue with people)

So I say both to the industry and to fans and to wonderful girls like Kitty here, like superheroes! Like them alot.

SAY IT LOUD AND PROUD!!

I wear my shirts proudly. I have two killer Spider-Man t-shirts, a awesome Atari shirt (my favorite), three Batman ones, and a few other old ones. I wear them proudly and I get compliments, and girls think they're "cute", believe it or not. Something that I don't complain about. :)

Yes, I am 22 also. Yeah, I kinda feel like most people here are in the teens, though there's plenty of older folks here too. Everybody here is pretty mature though, for the most part there is less whining and quibbling here than in the real world.

I think I started serious comic collecting about age 13 too(hmm...probably more like 12, I remember reading Thor and Hulk in 6th grade) , though before that I got more kiddie stuff like Archie and Roger Rabbit.

is this thread someone's idea of a sick joke? for the love of god, kitty, tell me you have an older sister. "i need a boyfriend who likes batman." where are you girls hiding. if i could talk about batman with girls, i be set. i always figured comics and females were like oil and vinegar. hell, it seems batman himself can't even get himself a decent girl. anyway, i want to thank you for giving a lot of kind hearted pathetic comic nerds hope. :D

p.s. is EVERYTHING in your bizarro world this different than ours kitty?
