Well, even when I looked at early info on SEED, one thing about it crossed my mind:

Maybe Sunrise is trying a double-headed approach to the gundam franchise?

There's no doubt Gundam has a great deal of appeal to both adults scifi/drama fans, and younger action fans. Between Turn A Gundam and Gundam SEED, both groups were given quite a taste.

So, perhaps Sunrise has thought of alternating the kind of Gundam coming out?

Like...release Turn A Gundam, follow it with SEED, follow Turn A with another CC- or similar gundam, follow with SEED 2 or another complete AU Gundam.

Certainly, the idea not only has some merit, but it fits with Bandai's suggested, but not confirmed, approach of releasing SEEd and Zeta simultaneously on US television. (certainly the DVDs of Zeta will be coming out around SEED, and Bandai has called it a "re-launch of the franchise" or something to that affect)

More like a triple-headed approach. Comments made by the Chief Gundam Officer Kazunori Ueno in Nikkei Characters! magazine:

"Due to SEED, we were able to build 3 foundations for the Gundam business. One is the First Gundam fan, mid 20's to mid 30's. Other is the younger SEED generation fans, late 10's to 20's. On top of this, we are covering the kindergarden/elementary age group with SD Gundam. These 3 series (MSG, SEED, & SD) and their respective fan group will form the core of Gundam's character business."

Cool, I hadn't seen that before. Frankly, I'm all for it. If we 20-30 guys get our fill of Gundam out, I'm all too happy if the younger crowds do as well. :)

Maybe. The more the merrier, although hopefully stuff like SD Gundam will remain relatively sporadic.

A dual Seed/Zeta run on TV would be awesome. My VCR would be getting a lot of work... :D
