X Men: Phoenix Saga DVD opinions??

I keep on wondering if I should buy that DVD. I am not a big X Men fan as it is, but I do like it in small doses, and I did enjoy the Pheonix Saga in the comic books. I have never seen the animated series. How is this one? And how about the other X Men animated DVDs? What can you tell me about them? Any and all opinions welcome!

well, it was about as true as a toon version could be, I suppose. Of course, Jean didn't die in the end (or appear to, if you include Jean's later ressurection), and the White Queen's costume didn't look as Fredrick's of Hollywood, but it wasn't a bad adaption of the comic. Marvel's animated adaptions of comics have usually translated fairly well, imo. It's when they tried to tell new stories that they flubbed up (the first season of the most recent Fantastic Four series).

The cartoon is good although the animation is spotty at times. If you can get it for $15 or less, pick it up. I
d'd actually wait until the next 2 come sout. One of the discs includes the 2 part SANCTUARY episode, my personnel favorite of the series. The other has WEAPON X, LIES, AND VIDEOTAPES, an easy 2nd.

It was good when it was being broadcast on TV. The anticipation and hype is missing if you watch it on DVD, but it's pretty solid all around, except for the animation (which was at its peak here, unfortunately). Some characters stood in for others. Since Colossus wasn't an X-Men in the cartoon, Gambit took his place, and stuff like that.

The one thing that bother me about this DVD is that the episodes aren't broken ito chapters. There's no way you can skip to a favorite par tin the episode via chapters. YOu can only do that with the whole episode.

Other than that, the DVD is fine. I wish there were some extras but the picture is great except for some color washing, especially the red, from time to time.

the best thing to do would be to rent it first, then decide on buying it or not.

Sound advice, Inque. If you're an X-MEN diehard than this purchase is a no-brainer. If yer not, take some caution. I bought it becuase I had $20 extra dollars.

I work for a video store part time, but we do not have the X Men Pheonix Saga for rental. Real bummer too. I wish we had more animated titles for rent! I guess it is only a matter of time!

I'm dissapointed more animated titles aren't for rent. I couldn't even find ROTJ for rent! I guess the only place we'll be able to rent them, for the time being, is the animated movie stores.

My video store doesn't even have ROTJ for rent, and I work for Blockbuster! You would think that a big chain like that would carry that one for rental. And people come in quite frequently requesting it. Oh, well, perhaps it is a contractural thing?

I'm dissapointed in that, too. The only animated rentals we get are "big name" ones from Disney or Dreamworks. I'd just like to see more animation for rent on DVD. But some video store sup here still have all those old TMNT VHS's for rent, for only 99 cents.

Alot of it may boil down to politics. I know that there are some titles that Blockbuster won't carry either because of politics or becuase there is a contract that restricts the title from being available for rental. The newest version of Jaws, for example, is not allowed for rental in our store. I don't know why these things happen, but I guess for big chains like Blockbuster, there is more at play. It is a corporate structure and individual stores don't have the freedom to get in whatever they want. For instance, I could not order in a copy of ROTJ and put it out for rental without clearing it with the district manager first.

Does Blockbuster have an agreement with certain movie studios? It seems weird that they can't put out a few extra copies to make some money. But given the extreme price that video stores sometimes has to buy movies I guess can justify it.

I really don't know all the ins and outs of it. I just work there! :)

I think that it has to do with agreements with movie companies and what the want to push in the stores. That's why you will see 400 copies of one title and only 50 of another, even if the 50 copies of that one title is always out and 400 people are asking for it. But things like that are only usually a problem on a busy weekend, when all the hot new releases run out.

As far as Batman Return of the Joker there, I never asked why they don't carry it. We have it for sale, just not rental.

I do know that there are somethings they will NEVER get in, such as any unrated version of a movie on DVD (tho one of our managers ordered in five copies of the unedited version of Pitch Black and sold them) and they won't carry things like Faces of Death. But they will carry all those lame soft porn titles from Eros. Go figure.
