OK, this is just getting out of hand.
When I first heard the rumor that they (Hollywood) were planning on making a 'Hellblazer' flick I nearly had to change my drawers. This could be one sweeeeeet film.
Then the suits stuck their fingers in the pie....
Now we have an AMERICAN John Constantine played by (dear lord NO!) Nicolas Cage. This is sooooooo wrong it's sickening. Can anyone really picture Cage as Constantine, running around in his trench coat and *issing on the devil? I don't think so. Plus some of the best concepts about John Constantine are the things he gets involved in that just wouldn't work if he weren't European. The language, his actions, even his views about the world of magic are ALL based on the fact that he grew-up in a country where, at the time, the political/social atmosphere was charged with racism, partyism, religious struggle and fascism. An American wouldn't have his 'edge' not having been raised in an environment where these things, although they do exist here, aren't as prominent or influential on the individual.
But that's just my opinion...I could be wrong.

I never read Hellblazer, I just never felt like getting into it. However, I did plan on seeing the movie when it came out.

My question: why is Nick Cage attached to all these comic movies all of a sudden. Superman. Iron Man. Now Constantine.

I agree, Constantine loses his charm if he were to be from the U.S. That'd just be a dumb move.

Don't forget Ghost Rider. I'm not really keen on all these comicbook adaptaions. X-Men was good. But, I foresee a barrage of "Tomb Raider"/"Batman & Robin" debacles in our cinematic future.

-RANT MODE ON-

Don't original screenplays get made anymore? There's a popular saying; "There's nothing new under the sun, all you can do is give it a haircut." I think that's BS. You've got all these hacks and crap-pushers in Hollywood using that line as their mantra. Wait, I take that back. Their mantra is "money, money, money..." The "nothing new" stuff is more of a slogan.

It's sad when in America the "high-brow" studio pictures are all based on Steven King and Michael Crichton novels.

Remakes, re-treats, sequels and based on's up the yin-yang. Thew studio's MUST be to blame. There have got to be writers out there, taking their little ideas and building them into stories. They're just not getting their chances. ~Sigh~
