MARK FLEISCHER NAMED PRESIDENT OF MAINFRAME, U.S.A. NEW APPOINTMENT
SIGNALS GLOBAL EXPANSION FOR CANADIAN ANIMATION STUDIO
(Vancouver, Canada October 4, 2001) Brett Gannon, newly appointed
president and COO of Mainframe Entertainment, Inc. (MFE:TSE) today
announced the appointment of Mark Fleischer as President of its Los
Angeles-based subsidiary, Mainframe, U.S.A. In this newly created
position, Fleischer will spearhead the expansion of the company’s
presence in Los Angeles, with the goal of positioning Mainframe to
more effectively pursue opportunities within the Hollywood creative,
production, and business community.
"We needed a stronger presence in Hollywood and Mark Fleischer is the
person to help us accomplish this goal," Gannon said. "We think it is
especially fitting that the grandson of the great animation pioneer,
Max Fleischer, take the reins of our Los Angeles based animation
studio. As a rare third generation member of the entertainment
community, Mark is very well connected and highly regarded. Through
his highly developed skills and relationships, we will continue to
expand both our production and distribution opportunities."
Added Fleischer, "Mainframe’s superb creative, production, and
management team, together with the extraordinary creative and
production flexibility made possible by computer generated animation,
has uniquely positioned Mainframe for major growth. The company’s
history of great success will serve as a solid platform for a dramatic
expansion of its position in the marketplace. I feel very privileged
to have been invited to be a part of this."
Fleischer first began working with Mainframe in his capacity of
President of Fleischer Studios, Inc. in Los Angeles. The two companies
recently joined forces to develop and produce a new animated
television series based on the Fleischer Studios-owned classic cartoon
icon Betty Boop, a creation of Max Fleischer’s. Mark Fleischer, along
with his father, preeminent film director Richard Fleischer ("20,000
Leagues Under the Sea," "Tora, Tora, Tora," and "Doctor Doolittle"
among many others), who serves as the Chairman of Fleischer Studios,
oversees the management of the family-owned company. For the last two
years he has also been serving as Managing Partner of the Los Angeles
office of the New York law firm Squadron, Ellenoff, Plesent and
Sheinfeld, LLP.
Previously, Fleischer held the post of Executive Vice President,
Entertainment Business Development at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios,
Inc. (MGM), where he was responsible for identifying and developing
sources of financing for motion pictures, structuring and negotiating
distribution, financing and co-production arrangements as well as
maintaining and administrating the studio’s film and television
library.
A graduate from the University of Exeter in England, Fleischer is also
the co-author of Producing, Financing and Distribution Film 2nd
Edition (Baumgarten, Farber and Fleischer), a resource relied upon by
many professionals in the motion picture industry and legal community.
Mainframe Entertainment Inc. is the world’s preeminent producer of
computer animation, and is expanding into long-form CGI for feature
films and interactive entertainment. The company is best known as the
pioneer of computer animated television series with the groundbreaking
series ReBoot. Mainframe has produced over 230 hours of computer
animation. Since 1994 the company has had six computer animated
television series on air in the North American market and is currently
in production on Max Steel, Barbie in the Nutcracker (a direct to
video feature), two original ReBoot movies and recently produced 40
half-hours of the Heavy Gear television series. Additionally, the
studio is in production on a large-format stereoscopic feature film
based on Gulliver’s Travels for release in IMAX 3D theatres and an all
new animated series featuring the classic cartoon character Betty
Boop. Founded in 1993, the company employs over 300 artists,
animators, technicians and production personnel, and has won many
prestigious awards for its creative and technical innovations,
including an induction into the Smithsonian Institute.
