Release Date: May 1, 2000
Studio: 20th Century Fox
Director: George Lucas
Starring: Guy Pearce, Carrie Anne Moss, Joe Pantoliano
Plot Summary: Leonard (Guy Pearce) is an insurance investigator, who's memory has been damaged following a head injury he sustained after intervening on his wife's murder. His quality of life has been severely hampered after this event, and he can now only live a comprehendable life by tattooing notes on himself, and taking pictures of things with a Polaroid camera. The movie is told in forward flashes of events that are to come that compensate for his unreliable memory, during which he has liaisons with various complex characters. Leonard badly wants revenge for his wife's murder, but, as numourous characters explain, there may be little point if he won't remember it in order to provide a satisfying feel to him. The movie veers between these future occurrences, and a telephone conversation Leonard is having in his motel room, in which he compares his current state to that of a client whose claim he once dealt with.

Uhhh...what?
If this is what Memento was, I hated it. :p Now, if it's about the actual movie "Memento", I thought it was a great film, pure and simple.
This has just gotten me all confused now.

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only person in the world who didn't like this movie. Don't get me wrong, it was okay, and the backwards plot was a cute gimmick and nice use of P.O.V., but sometimes I think they were trying too hard to be "smart" and just wound up being convoluted for the sake of being convoluted instead. I didn't feel attached to any of the characters, and there was no emotion in the movie for me. A pretty "meh" experience all around. Not awful, but I've seen lots better.

Actually, the character that I was the most attached to was Teddy, who died right at the beginning/end of the movie. Yet, you don't realize how sad his death is until you see the end/beginning of the movie.

Hmph... I know there's spoilers in this thread, but I can't really argue whether Teddy's death is sad without giving away part of the end :)
I think this is one of the greatest movies I've seen. The whole backwards thing to me wasn't a gimmick, because it set me perfectly into Leonard's train of thought. Even though I was picking up all the pieces Leonard was losing, I still was lost at the end, which is perfect.
On the second viewing, not only was I still fully entertained, because I knew the train of events, I was able to examine the movie in chronological order, and it's an entirely different movie when you think about it.

I never felt sorry for Teddy, sure he had "good intentions" for doing what he did but Im sure a lot of people got killed because he just didnt tell the truth to Leonard and it cost him big time.

also forgot to mention that the description willem gave of the movie being told in "flash forward" is incorrect. it's simply told with the scenes in reverse order.

I didn't write that description. I just copied it off imdb.com

He did tell Lenny the truth, but Lenny forgot it. Telling Lenny the truth 100 times won't do him any good because Lenny will just forget it 100 times.

Great movie. Loved it. Guy Pearce was great at the whole thing - from start to end - was enjoyable and surprising. Need to see it again really! Love the section where he 'wakes up' in the bathroom. Fantastic writing.

Actually Teddy dies in the middle/end.
This is a great movie.
Ummm...how do you figure? The first scene we see in the movie is him getting shot. The last scene chronologically is him getting shot. It's either the beginning or the end, but I don't see how you can say it's the middle.

Sorry didn't mean his death, I meant the events that explain his death, which are the last scene of the movie. The last scene of the movie is the middle of the movie

The movie was great. It's backwards storytelling made the viewer participate in the movie experience by doing "interactive watching". You couldn't just sit and watch it, you had to think n' link all the scenes to make sense. This type of viewing does lead to and overwhealming sense of suspense which can easy turn into an annoyance. Its good because its original, but let's not see someone else use this method for a LONG time. Carrie Anne Moss was great in it too. Apparently she's a good actress when she's not Ms. Ice Queen in the Matrix.
