Gee, it looks like those discs would get scratched up in those sleeves. What's that made of, cardboard?

Whatever those Samurai Jack and Adult Swim CDs came in...
That's interesting.. I so wish I had bought it for $99..

It looks nice, just kind of...flimsy. You would think Media Blasters would release it in a better box, like they did Weiss Kreuz, though WK's box was basically just like four DVD cases put together, so...

Eh, no rush to buy 'em then. Not like WS made the show unwatchable...
If it was the whole series, I might consider buying it for the episodes that just aren't gonna air for a while. Money going to Guilty Gear X2 now.

Okay, it's time to save up $100 and watch a viewable version of Kenshin!

I could still gather that Senkaku died(though a kid wouldn't be able to), but I had no clue that Jinnei or Usui died. After watchin the second Jinnei episode, I wondered why they just let him get away. Then I logged on to Toonzone and found out the truth. Similarily, I wondered why someone as rutheless as Saitou didn't finish of Usui. Then I found out that he had killed him thanks to the internet.

Stop bashing WS edited Kenshin. They did a fantastic job and you should be praising their efforts. Akins loves Kenshin and he took good care of it. Yeah it could have been uncut on AS, but it was a breath of fresh air on Toonami. The hope of a better tommorow. If it had aired back in the days of Tenchi Muyo and Outlaw Star then you'd have little to complain about and it would have done terrific in ratings all around. Sadly, Kenshin was either before or after its time.
Yes there were a few rough edits, but how would you have edited those? We can only guess how hard it was to try and make them not stand out too much. You could still cleary tell the result, they just had to cut out the action that cause it (in the case of those 3 deaths). What they did with the Shishio VS Kenshin fight was phenominal for Y7-FV standards. I'll stick to belief that a good show is STILL a good show despite edits. If I didn't believe than then I never would have enjoyed such shows as Sailor Moon, Samurai Pizza Cats, Tenchi Muyo, Voltron, Dragonball Z, Yu Yu Hakusho, Digimon, Pokemon, Shaman King, and Sonic X. (among many others). Anime gets edited here, even on AS. So just get over it.
They did an awful job and we should be criticizing their half-assed butchery. It should have been uncut on Adult Swim, but instead it was a quickly chopped footnote on Toonami. The edits ruined the show. It was too late to air it there, and the poor show paid the price.
Chad Bonin
12-09-2003, 08:01 PM
Would it have been uncut on AS? Nah, they'd still edit some stuff.
Kenshin was greatly handled.
Probably. No nude scenes.
Kenshin was crappily handled.
Chad Bonin

People who just watched it on Toonami without seeing the uncut version knew what was going on. The major criticism comes from those who saw them earlier.

the only edit that really made me laugh was when (uncut: Saitoh killed Usui by pinning him to the wall with his sword)
And in the edited version: they showed him being flown through the air and hit the wall, but they removed the sword which kinda looked like Saitoh used psi. powers to make him stay up there and was killing him by pushing with a psi-finger in the stomach area.
I thought at first Jinnei just passed out, but when i saw it a second time i got it.
And i knew that Senkaku was killed

Or save your money, stop the WS-hating, and have enjoyed it on Toonami and SVES.
I enjoyed it, except for the crappy schedule changing. I'm buying them since they'll never repeat on TV again due to non-WS CN's disrespect for it, and to encourage them to release the other two sagas in box sets. I'd rather not use the time and energy to track down the DVDs of the last arc. Similarly, I'm buying Cyborg 009 DVDs because they're putting 8 episodes (4 hours) a disk like all companies should do. It's buying out of support (Cyborg is interesting, but not one of my favorites.)
Of course, I can do this because I'm not a schmuck who buys an excessive amount of DVDs, going on a weekly hunt for every major release out of some completist obsession. They're going to be obsolete anyway once the studios milk'em for every thing they're worth and then churn out DLDs (which they've been holding back for the last few years.)

At least Cartoon Network didn't air the old Sony Samurai X dub of Kenshin.
I didn't watch Kenshin on Cartoon Network since I already had the DVDs so I don't know how bad cartoon network butchered it. I'm surprised to see that people actually support censorship.
Chad Bonin
12-10-2003, 10:22 AM
I only support censorship when it gets a show to where it belongs. DBZ, edited, works on Toonami more than DBZ uncut does on Adult Swim.
I am usually against censorship of any form, but hey, we're getting the shows for free on television.
WS handled the show well, keeping the plot and actions intact.

The # of eps/DVD depends a lot on demand. Series in low demand usually get a higher # of eps/DVD to make the DVD more attractive to buyers. Series in high demand usually get a lower # of eps/DVD obviously so the company can make some money - money that can also be used to subsidize/make up for the series that some fans want but don't make money for the company (or to pay for the higher license fee that a high-demand series logically garners). It's mostly money and economics.

It depends on the greed of the company. Blue Gender is spread across 8 disks for 26 episodes, on a series that, at the very best, could have a "cult following". Less than an hour and a half on most discs is rediculous, even for Funi.

Yeah, they died. We know they died from the edited episodes.
You know they died from the talkback threads. Besides, even if edited Kenshin is acceptable, it's taking forever for the series to get anywhere when they're airing one episode a week.
Was Senkaku that bald guy with blades on his hands? I don't see how you could figure out how he died on the SVES version. I mean they just showed him and Soujiro standing there together. No blow, no blood, no scream, nothing. Though I did figure out Usui died from the strain of his voice. As for Jinei, I never saw the edited version of his death.
Animation Otaku
12-10-2003, 03:58 PM
There was no editted version Jinnei's death. They cut it out completely, and never mentioned it, leading the viewer to believe(as I did), that Kenshin was going to let Jinnei just run off and come back again at some later time.

Knux, you may think it's cool to start fights on the Toonami forum, but on the CN forum, I do not tolerate it.
Please cease this ridiculousness and talk about it on the Toonami forum if it still bothers you that people have an opinion that's just as grounded and backed by evidence as yours.
Resume talking ABOUT THE DVD SET.

While the argument may not be appropriate for this thread, I don't see Knux doing anything worse than a lot of the other people in this thread. Plus, if you are going to only single out another forum's mod, I can find a lot worse stuff you have posted on the Toonami board.
Basically, if you aren't going to "tolerate it," I better see you following the same standard when posting on the Toonami board.

It's 150 if you buy them alone. It's worse on the third, CN unaired arc, where there's only 3 episodes a disk.
Personally, I'm buying because liked it enough to own it, and since CN will never air it again. Bastiches.

He threw a wrench into the thread and steered it off topic. He started the fight.

Perhaps if Knux or Luigi didn't start every single one of those debates, I wouldn't post "worse stuff". I don't understand why everything Knux says has to be so confrontational. If he didn't egg people on with flamebait, there'd be no trouble.
Basically, if you aren't going to "tolerate it," I better see you following the same standard when posting on the Toonami board.
Only if the standard is also followed by the people who mod there. Which it currently isn't.
Would it kill you to not help drag this out any longer than it has to?
Everyone start talking about the DVD set, now, or I'm closing the thread.

They're also sold a lot cheaper than the 120 bucks being asked for this boxed set, which only has the 1st story arc! What's up with this?!?!? I think the boxed sets in question were made in another country...is it just cheaper to buy on Ebay?
