Bandai and Microsoft distribute Anime (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/article.php?id=4352)
Bandai Japan and Microsoft have teamed up to distribute anime on the Internet using Microsoft's Windows Media technology. Fruits of the partnership are already becoming available to South Koreans as five titles became available for streaming download at the end of November. The titles currently available in Korea include three Gundam movies, Z Gundam (50 TV episodes), Dirty Pair (26 TV episodes), .hack//SIGN (26 TV episodes) and Aura Battler Dunbine (49 TV episodes).

While I like the idea of being able to watch an episode for $1 each, I don't like the idea of it being streaming video. I hate streaming video.
Oh well, not like the service will be available in the US anytime soon.
And by the way, this can really be considered as Microsoft "getting in the anime business," because it's really just Bandai getting the means to distribute their properties over the internet. So you guys can all stop with the "  " now.

Seriously. It's not like Microsoft will have rights to anything. Sounds like a cool idea, one I would really love to apply in the States, not that it's going to happen anytime soon.

That's actually pretty interesting. Looks like Bandai is doing what the music iindustry has refused to do and is trying out a new business model. I wonder how it will work out.

That actually sounds nice, even though it won't come to the US. Kinda like Toonamami's old reactor except it costs money. Still a good concept, something that wouldn't be half bad if it came to the US.

Well there go my fears of seeing Bill Gates star in an anime *shudders*. Anyway, that's good for the people who would want to strealine said episode, which means it isn't good for me.

Can someone explain to me what makes Bill Gates evil? What makes money-making evil?

Interesting. I guess Bandai still has the right to Aura Battler Dunbine over there. Best of luck to them with the service. It's certainly a gutsy and very smart move for them, especially if they have the stuff out there for a decent price. Gotta tip my hat to Bandai and Microsoft on this one, they got it right.

The man tries to monopolize every busniess known to man. And if you didn't goof off in history class you would've learned about 3 major busniesses that monopolized Oil, Railroads, and Banks in America and worldwide. This is not only bad for the goverment, but bad for the people and the economy. One of the major causes for the Depression was Monopoly. If one man owns an entire chain of departmant stores like Walmart, Costco, Target, Sears, ect then he can charge only one price because there are no competors. MS has been breaking this law for over 2 decades now. The goverment however has been too slow to act in any maner that would hurt Gates. Now he's like Richy Rich with his theme park and talking maid robot going on high speed adventures through the solar system.
Whats even worse about Microsoft is their products and opperating sytems are not that well structured. Apple would be the #1 in the American industry if it wasn't for the free opperating system being sold with PC's and the PC gaming revolution. That and the giant mountain of money under Gates house. He does not stop there though. He buys out schools, smaller busniesses, larger busniesses, and tries to get into other busniesses like gaming and anime. Things that MS are not to famaliar with and don't handle very well. Thats why people were upset about the first versions of XP. People were upset they were being thrown out of their homes and small busniesses to make way for condos and labs for local colleges. People hated the X-Box. And people hate them for trying to buy out Bandai and take the rights of their animes to claim as their own, but tell the media that Bandai gets the bigger 1/2.

Microsoft isn't really doing anything interesting here that I can see. That's not "getting into the anime business", that's liscensing WMP tech to Bandai. Rather misleading topic title.

Please... Do me a favor and quit whining! Is Microsoft buying anime? No. Is Bill Gates personally editing anime? No. Is Microsoft trying to buy Bandai or Sunrise or the soul of Tomino? No. Does this mean that Microsoft will make you buy every Bandai title ever from them online? No. It's just new technology. Thank you.

HAY MAN ITZ CALLD GAMEBOY, NOT GOOF OFF!!!11!!
Just kidding, hehe.
I'm homeschooled, so there's not actually any "class" for me to attend. Though, I do have to do courses for credits, and the only [required] history course that I did was Canadian History. Also, the fact that I hardly ever watch the news may be why I asked my question. It wasn't an attack at Bill and his company, just a question.
After hearing about what Microsoft does, I do hope that Bandai reconsiders.

I shutter at the thought of Bill Gates as an anime character. Mabybe Bandai can produced an anime called "MicroSoft took over the World." :D

if you have the power to monopolize, do it. I wouldnt even want to use my computer with another system than windows.

Well, if there's money to be made, you can count on Microsoft to try and make it.
Anyways, it doesn't sound like a bad idea. And I'm glad it seems I wasn't the only one that was slightly misled by this thread's title. I thought that Microsoft was actually going to start making anime shows.
Heh. This idea actually sounds kind of interesting, but paying money for a STREAMING VIDEO, not even a real download, doesn't really seem worth it to me. If I (or anyone) buy $200 worth of anime from Microsoft's online library and then Microsoft decides it's not making enough money from the anime business and takes down the store, I just lost $200 right there. Whether it happens next week or it happens 10 years from now, the store's not going to last forever and at one point in time a bunch of people are going to be ticked off. Charging for streaming video doesn't really seem right to me.
I wouldnt even want to use my computer with another system than windows.
And you, I don't even know what to say to you. :p

Jesus, calm down. Microsoft's helping stream anime in South Korea. Its not going to acquire Bandai, ADV, & Pioneer tomorrow and bring the anime industry under its will.
And frankly, given all the free anime on the net a dollar an ep is a damned good deal and a good counter to this, not entirely like Apple's iTunes service as a counter to free MP3's. If that were available in the U.S. I'd pay for it, a price like that is well worth seing a quality series (like Z Gundam...those lucky Koreans) online whenever I want as per my schedule.
Its a good service. Don't knock it just because Microsoft is involved.

I hate misleading topic titles. I thought they were gonna start acquiring anime or making it, not helping out Bandai stream anime in South Korea which is hardly anything to cry about.

I went ahead and changed the thread title, because it's VERY misleading. And now I'll leave you with this thought:
o·ver·re·act
intr.v. o·ver·re·act·ed, o·ver·re·act·ing, o·ver·re·acts
To react with unnecessary or inappropriate force, emotional display, or violence.
over·re·action n.
over·re·active adj.
