You know what this means: I passed through the Rules Of Engagment Against Red Giant and get to post this week's KND Talkback. And Here Are The Synopsis:
Opeartion R.E.P.O.R.T- After every KND mission, reports must be filed, particually when the missions fail. There are many diffrent ways to tell a story, and each operative tries to excuse their failure by making us see it their way.
NOTE 1: Expect a "Rashomon" Plot style. (As in the same story told over and over but each time from a diffrent character's viewpoint).
NOTE 2: Numbah 4's Version of the Story Seems to be a DBZ Homage (CN's Most Popular show. If you don't know what it is, I'm not telling you from under a rock).
Operation B.R.I.E.F- Numbahs Two through Five faced with a dliemma: their leader is running around screaming with his tightie-whities on his head while KND Global Command is trying to brief them on an important mission. Has Numbah One finally cracked?
NOTE: Expect to see the Global KND Command Moon Base again and perhaps an advance on the Season 2 subplot (Numbah 5's sister Cree at the moonbase. And remember she works for the father of the Delightful Children).
So read and review here. And that's it really. See you later (with my own thoughts and opinions on this episode of course).

Red Giant: "Why you, I had to go to the supermarket to get food for a party I'm going to this weekend. I wanted to do the talkback. Thanks for nothing."

Holy crap!
If anyone else noticed what Numbuh 5's viewpoint was a reference to...Well, that was a nice touch.
I kinda thought Sheep in the Big City....but besides the character designs, nothing else seemed to fit.
And wasn't Sheep designed to look oldschooly anyway?

Seemed to be somewhere in between Pink Panther and '60s Chuck Jones experimental cartoons to me.

i managed to escape from barbossas's cell on his ship, the black pearl long enough to turn this in. and don't think this treasonous act will not be thought of well by the red giant. he'll have you keelhauled, diana. and make you walk the plank, arr.
saw at least 4 of the report animations...
2's was a pretty neat homage to superman.
3's was pretty cute (kuki's) part... i swear i almost saw a strongmad/strongbad fusion on one of those heads.
4's was the tribute to dbz... seeing the delightful children as a frieza monster was so cool. their final form wasn't better than their main form, but monsters are unusual that way.
5's was pretty surprising. it was done almost like sheep in the big city, some pleasant memories.
i'm not sure what 1's was. nor do i have time.
i hear barbossa coming down the street, i guess stickybeard ratted me out...eep
better run before i'm the other one walking the plank tonight, and i'm sure red giant's gonna want to keep your still warm dress, diana missy. ... (RUNS!!)
wrenchien.
btw.. everyother.. knd.. is better.. than the underwear one on tonight... for sure :( even if kuki was the cute nurse girl.

Next to Sheep, I was thinking PP, too.

It reminded me of The Offbeats, a Kablam series Mo Willems worked on. That's all.
The 2nd short was forgettable.
I didn't really like the DBZ thing too much - it seemed more like they were trying to make fun of its animation and the dub's voice acting :/
I only saw bits and pieces of R.E.P.O.R.T. and it was okay... judging by Wrenchien's response I think I made the right move by not watching B.R.I.E.F. :p

REPORT was a great episode. I really loved each of the viewpoints. #4's was a great homage to DBZ. :D And it was all about getting a pizza which turns out to be the DCFDTL's pizza and not theirs. :D BREIF was sorta average. But I'm still giving this episode an A. ;)

All five segments were very good #1's was a nice homage to the CGI virtualworld in "The Simpsons" of sorts. #2's was his usual "superheroic" self, #3's was the most cheerful pipe dream around. (It wasn't colorful enough to be a acid trip.) And as for #4 well we all know how it is already (whats the matter guys? Couldn't hire Scott McNeil to do a special guest spot here? I know whom he ACTUALLY voices in DBZ but still. Ah I'm just kidding....)
And #5's segment was by all means a nice touch as well...
Now as for "B.R.I.E.F" was a nicely amusing little episode with a nicely original plot. (Now how many TV shows have living vengeful underwear?) "S.U.P.P.O.R.T" is STILL the best KND episode but these do go awfully close.
Next week is the 2nd season finale to KND, this should be VERY good.

Every Opinion (And Underwear) Is Respected In The Codename Kids Next Door Episode Review of "Operation R.E.P.O.R.T"/"Operation B.R.I.E.F".
"Opeartion R.E.P.O.R.T"- Warning: This is a pretty long review. If you don't like those, you may want to consider scrolling down.
When I went into this segment, I had a pretty good idea what would Happen with it. I read the descriptions of online (the synopsis came from cartoonnetwork.com) I saw the commerical for it several times, and not to mention using my own imagination to envision how this episode would go like. So it was no surprise that each character had his own view with it's own art, it was no surprise that the Delightful Children won (or at least, the KND lost) and it was no surprise that this was reported to High Command (more on that later). Yeah, there were a few surprises tossed in, but I didn't come into this episode wanting to be amazed at what the plotline was. Rather, I wanted to be amazed at how the DIRECTION of the plotline was and what exactly each view was. And I was not diappointed. In fact, I would say this is the best KND 11 minute Segment Yet.
But to really get the concept of this story, you have to get the history of it. This episode was based off of "Rashomon" a 1951 Movie Set in Fuedal Japan. "Rashomon" told the story of a young samurai's death and the four witnesses who give a totally different account of what happened. This was a plot used many a time on other TV shows. In fact, a lot of the other Cartoon Cartoons used this plotline as well. From Ed Edd n Eddy's "Once Upon An Ed" (Where The Boy's Tell Johnny The Story of how they went from running a jawbreaker bank to getting chased by Kankers to then getting stucked in his wall. Eddy's version was a self serving tribute to himself and potrayed him as the ultimate ruler and he got everything he wanted. Edd's was far more realistic and showed that it was because of the other's lack of self restraint and control that they're plans always failed. And Ed's was one part Old Fashion Monster Movie Action (With Some Sci-Fi Horror to boot) mixed with one part general insanity that made absolutley little to no sense, in a convential meaning anyway) to Time Squad's "Thrilla At Atillia" (Where the 3 Time Squaders had to write in the log what exactly happen in the mission. Tuddrussel and Larry's were more telling of how each of them was the one who started the mission on total success and how the other led to it's failure. Otto gave the correct version of the events (that both of them were to blame for the failure) but since Otto isn't an offical TS member, his version wasn't used) and then to the Power Puff Girls "The Bare Facts" (When they had to tell the Mayor how they rescued him from Mojo Jojo's latest scheme. It was all a matter of colors here. Blossom was normal with a shade of red, Buttercup's was black with dark outlines on the others, and Bubbles was crayon pictures put together to tell the tale) and finally to Johnny Bravo's "Rashomoron" (Johnny, Susie's and Carl's tale of a diaster in the park. Susie's Version (The Correct One) Included Happy Unicorns and tiny robots. Carl's Version (The More Incorrect One) Included Algae Monster's and the thought of Johnny being his friend. Johnny's Version (The Most Incorrect One) included Mad Donkeys and Johnny defeating a Ninja). This combined the telling of failure from Time Squad, having the events overlap each other like in Ed Edd n Eddy and The Powerpuff Girls, and uh... well I mentioned Johnny Bravo for the heck of it.
So what we have here are five seperate stories intertwined to tell of total team failure.
Numbah One- Nigel attempts to get the object they were looking for, but ends up getting dropped and finds out the Delightful children took it. The animation style is heavily based on your Old PC 3D Type games, complete with puzzling labyrinths popping up and secret trap doors. The backgrounds owes in debt to Tron, complete with Tron's fade out and fade in for Numbah one.
Numbah Two- Picking up where his leader started, Hoagie transforms into Numah2Guy and chases after the Delightful Children. His efforts are thwarted though when the DC use his weakness to bring him down, but not before Numbah2Guy knocks the box away from them. Obviously, this was based on a Comic Book style, complete with panel shots and corny dialogue (of course supplied by Numbah 2, corny dialogue king). On a whole, it works better then when used in the Hulk, but "Fairly OddParents" Crimson Chin still does it better. (BTW, this is not the comic stylings of today, but rather that of the Golden age of comics. So you young readers may not get it, but I do).
Numbah Three- Kuki is playing with the flowers when the box appears in front of her. She plays with it a bit until the Delightful Children take it away... in a rather awkard moment for them. Kind of like Bubbles, Numbah 3's artistic style is simple and colorful, but far more animated. She also tends to go on long tangents about nonrelated events, like talking to the flowers and having all sorts of adventures with the box. This is what would happen if you let a 6 year old take over your cartoon (Kind of like in Dexter's Laboratory 50th episode... except only for a couple of minutes).
Numbah Four- The Delightful Children were fleeing with the box until they were stopped by the transformed Numbah Four. After a fairly intense battle, the Delightful Children transformed and got one up on Wallabay, until he decided to show them his transformation... which unfortuanley included big hair which made it hard for him to move, allowing the DC to escape. The look is anime, but we all know which anime this is most based on. Dragonball Z. The DC looked at first like a first form Freeza, and Numbah 4 Begins out as Super Sayian Goku. Include the energy blasts, the dialogue ("I'll show you a taste of my full strength!" "His power level is off the charts!") and even the music. The next transformation is more based on Alien then Z (of course, Freeza's third form was sort of a homage to Alien) but Numbah 4's transformation was a straight rip on the Super Sayian 3 stage. Ironically when this first aired it was right after Dragonball GT. I wonder what the characters in that would say about being mocked like this.
Numbah Five- It was up to Abagail to get the package back, but after a whole lot of chasing, it was revealed that the whole thing was a anchovie pizza, which the KND weren't even looking for, so the DC took it back. This seems to me based on the workings of the Pink Panther and that Nickoledon "KABLAM!" short "The Offbeats" (from the stylistic backgrounds to how the characters move around in it) but this is one that I'm not to sure on.
In the end, the mission is reported as failure to Numbah 86 (From "F.U.G.I.T.I.V.E") who bags on the kids for not getting the pizza, that in the last scene they forgot to pick up.
But in the end, this was about five totally diffrent stories interlacing and not what was at the end but how we got there. And I was much entertained. A++
"Operation B.R.I.E.F"- You know, even without the absuridity of little kids piloting highly complex weapons and saving the world from adults, KND has it's even more moments of oddity. Season Two espically. So far we've had a family of driving sharks ("F.A.S.T-F.O.O.D") Alien Moustaches ("S.H.A.V.E") and Hamsters From Beyond The Grave ("G.H.O.S.T"). But this so far has to be one of the weirdest. Talking, Assionating underpants. Called Mr. White to be exact. Anyway, there's no way this could of followed "R.E.P.O.R.T" in my book, but it was alright. Intresting to note that there is another member of high KND command (Numbah 65, who is kind of jerky nerd in charge of giving out information on red alert missions) and that you can know offically say Numbah 5's second in charge. The rest was okay (liked Mr.White becoming nice because he saw how good Nigel took care of his own Underpants) but pretty forgettable in the long run. B+
Overall: A

That the DBZ segment would've been better if DC were either Androids 16-20 with Cell or the Ginyu Force instead of a 5-headed Frieza. (And even though I got nothing against GF, I'm more leaning towards the Androids on this...)

What are you talking about? What actual show on American TV has truely spoofed DBZ?
I thought it was a great homage. They used Goku VS Frieza because EVERYONE and their mom knows about that fight. It would have been better if the DC were different characters... how about Buu? But it worked for the bit. The transformation was hillarious, and of course... when the fight was over it was only begining (typical DBZ fare).
I'm thinking Numba One's should have been a Matrix spoof, but Tron was okay I guess.

For the first time ever, I actually found an episode of KND above average. And that episode was called REPORT. If only the show tried more experimental stuff like this. It was an improvement from the adults and... underwear.
I even LoLed when I saw Number 4 power up and only his hair got bigger.
Still the best DBZ spoof is the Clam cartoon from Johnny Bravo with Vegeta and Goku having a Pokemon battle.

I'm always a lover of "multiple" POV stories, and R.E.P.O.R.T. is definately a great one for this show. Each one seemed to perfectly emulate the style of each of the KND respectibly (#1 - An action game, #2 - an old-school comic book, #3 - Something similar to what could be seen on Sesame Street [and I know Curious Pictures worked on that show], #4 - DBZ [I didn't mind them using Frieza...heck, the football-headed member of the DCFDTL actually looked like Frieza, and the long headed kid looked like another of his forms], #5 - Sheep in the Big City/Offbeats homage) At least we get a real, um, SSJ 4 out of it. (wouldn't mind that pic for an avatar)

That's what I was going to say. Hmmmm, maybe they'll air the rest of the Season 2 episodes in March (like you said they may have March premieres to promote the other 10 chapters of Clone Wars Matt) and then Season 3 in May or June (can't believe that Season 3 is that close away though. I think it's good though. Shows the creative team's really on the ball).

Sorry. At least you had some sort of excuse.
(Corrado zips his mouth with a zipper.)
"Hmmmm, maybe they'll air the rest of the Season 2 episodes in March (like you said they may have March premieres to promote the other 10 chapters of Clone Wars Matt)"
That makes sense since KND is CN's cash cow.

So the fridays kids lied to us? Right after the episode, it said that next week would be the season finale, along with all their fake enthusiasm. And if next week isn't the season finale, what is the description of the episode?
i swear i almost saw a strongmad/strongbad fusion on one of those heads.
Maybe not Strong Mad/Bad, but the helmeted kid in Numbah 3's story looked EXACTLY like Bubs.

What you expect? They need a reason to say that they're finished showing new episodes for awhile but can't straight out say "We're holding the rest of season two over till next year to get more ratings because of Clone Wars".

I noticed in the credits that James Arnold Taylor (Obi-Wan-Kenobi) was the VA of the Pizza Boy.
It sure didn't sound like him. I wonder if it was Dee or Ben Diskin who was the VA.
Also, was Ben Diskin the VA of Superguy in Numuh 2's version? That sounded like Dee also.
It reminded me of The Offbeats, a Kablam series Mo Willems worked on. That's all.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking of.
Mo Willems worked on The Offbeats? I never knew.

The first segment was almost good, then it turned to crap, I used to like this show, but now it is total crap; when will they stop thinking they are being cute and symbolic and realize they're just being plain stupid with this show--
"oooh talking underwear is after me, let's make a bunch of underwear and poo jokes for 12 minutes!"

You have a good point, but remember, you can't spell KIDS NEXT DOOR without KIDS. As in, this was a show SPECIFICALLY made for children to enjoy. And little kids like those underwear and poo jokes that they can understand and enjoy and not have to think about. I don't think they're going to appeal to the style of humor you want anytime soon. They've been getting good ratings with the style so far, so why change it because of what the minority (of viewers) think of it?
